It's not like I am anti-helmet or something (I promise I haven't blown up helmet manufacturers' facilities, boycotted ski shops for selling helmets or refused to ski with people who wear helmets). I can honestly say I have no problem with other people wearing helmets.
You'll probably appreciate that when my niece learned to ski as a little girl in the mid-'90s, I gave her a helmet as a gift.
So, you think I'll change my tune, but not Lars, Bob Peters and VA? Did you know that statistics show the highest percentage of adult helmet wearers are male skiers? Followed by male snowboarders, followed by female snowboarders, followed last by female skiers. Chances are much better that one of those three guys will be "converted" before me.
I am not trying to be cavalier here. I have thought many times about buying a helmet. But at this time, I don't feel compelled to do that yet. Perhaps it is because we rarely ski at crowded resorts, and when we do, we are in the expert terrain and away from the less-skilled and/or high-speed skiers and riders. However, we are doing more snowcat skiing and starting to venture into backcountry skiing, and THAT might be the reason we get helmets. More unknown situations, avalanche danger, knowing you have to get yourself out of the wilderness, farther away from any kind of assistance, etc.
If I ever buy a helmet, I will be sure to anounce it here on Epic.
