I have realized the range of adjustability on the Neox since I mounted the Neox on my B5's in 04. I'm going to be mounting Freerides on the Snoop Daddy's (they're going to be my AT, Powder, and who knows what else ski).
Yes, the ski mount mark is for boot center. I have used the rule of thumb of ball of foot on center of running surface previously and found switching to it (after originially mounting at the factory mark) to work much better than the factory mark (Salomon Pocket Rockets).
On the Snoop Daddy's I only have done quick measurements in a shop (mine have not arrived yet) but that seemed to show that I would need to move 6-8 cm. forward of the factory mark. That much worries me a bit. On the Pocket Rockets it was about 2cm forward of the factory mark.
I have heard that Atomics are notorious for a rearward mounting mark. On my B5's I moved it only to the forward position and left it. I didn't feel there was enough tip on the 162 B5 to try moving it more forward. Especially when I take my huge hucks off of 5 foot boulders!
I'd be interested to hear what yours turn out to be. If you're interested place the ski on a hard flat surface and find the halfway point between the contact points of tip and tale. Then measure your boot from midsole mark to ball of foot. Measure back that distance from the center of running surface and let me know where that places your boot midsole relative to the factory mounting mark.
