Good Tahoe ski area for close gambling

Thread Starter
I have friend who is going to Tahoe with her kids. They've never seen snow so total beginners. She would like to send them to ski school while she spends the day in Casino. I know Heavenly is an obvious choice, but was telling her the kids might do better at a smaller ski area. Are there any that are close to casinos? Also any suggestions on cheap lift tickets appreciated and/or lessons.

Diamond peak is close to the small north shore casinos (Tahoe Biltmore/Cal Neva), but not nearly as close as Heavenly is to the Stateline casinos. The smaller north shore casinos are also reasonably close to Northstar.

A bus /car ride will be necessary from the north shore casinos to the resorts, where Heavenly can be walked to from Stateline.

The ski lake tahoe 6 pack is sold out, so you can try http://www.snowbomb.com/ for tickets.

Serious gambling?

If she wants serious gambling, she'll have to hit S. Shore. Last time I went, the N. Shore casinos have lousy odds at the craps table. For instance, laying odds on the "DON'T PASS" line are like 3:1; you get 6:1 in S. Shore. It's a big difference.

Agree that South Shore is the best, but if she is a true hardcore gambler (i.e. AC and Vegas) she may be disappointed. Tell her to go take a lesson the first day. She may find out that she likes it better than throwing her money away at the casinos!!

They could always throw the kids in ski school @ Northstar and then drive 30 minutes to Reno.

I would stick with Heavenly. I would want to stay pretty close by if I had my kids in ski school.

You could also try Mount Rose, it is halfway between northlake and Reno... pretty sweet little resort...

spammy promo, but if they are beginners, Diamond Peak is also a great call (family resort) and http://www.liftopia.com has cheap tix there...

Go with the obvious. Send the kids up the Heavenly gondola to the ski school, walk across the street to a choice of a dozen casinos. Give the kids a cell phone and meet anytime back at the gondola. Easy, and exactly what she is looking for. Heavenly is big, but they have a great ski school, and a lift right from town. Its just like being at the same place and going your own way. Even the hotels offer babysitting.
