Yah, they finally got rid of that old race trail thruway. What a SHITTY trail. I used to race on it all the time and I've stood around coaching on it quite a bit. There isn't a trail in the east that has tried to kill me more times than that one. What a dangerous trail that used to be. But now they have a new one and Thruway is now the terrain trail.
If you were to stand at the finish area where the score board is, look straight up. Thruway used to come off of your left and there was nothing but a super steep drop and cliff above that. Well now that super steep slope has been turned into the final headwall on Drappers. The races still starts from the original start houses, but, the trail goes more or less with the fall line now. More straight down. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is an easy race trail by any means because it's not. There were plenty of USST men and women having trouble skiing it. The trail is full of terrain that really works your legs and then when you think your almost done you have to contend with that damn headwall. Your legs are already wooped and you have to give it everything you got to ski the steepest part of the trail. It makes for some exciting runs. It also makes for some spectacular crashes.
This is the second year they've been using the trail. If I haven't discribed where it is well enough, I'm sure WF's web site has a trail map.
It is great to see Shlopy doing well. He really diserves it.
