When I was in the Naval Air Reserve I was an Aviation machinists mate (Engine mechanic), and at drills I worked on engines for C-118's (DC-6's) On Active Duty for Training (ACDUTRA) our squadron went to Keflavik Iceland, to work on the actual aircraft. When I went to go into the cockpit of one of the aircraft to secure the engine controls for safety I discovered that a key portion of my training had somehow been omitted. I didn't know how to open the aircraft doors (at least while leaving them functional). These planes were quite old at the time and were approaching museum age rather than service age.
For those who might be confused by posts which discuss other service I have also been in the Air Force and Army National Guard.
