Otherwise I would stay within a longer walking distance.
Anyway, I've looked at tripadvisor about this hotel but wondered if anyone had any comments? It appears to be right where we want to be (Peak 9) and has the required indoor pool...and is affordable. Any comments, opinions or alternatives (remember, family of 5) would be appreciated.
I haven't been yet, so all I can do is share what I think
I found out during my own research for our upcoming Feb trip.
If anyone who's actually been sees mistakes here, speak up please.
Depending on what your space/affordability sweet spot is, you can get a 1 or 2 BR condo for about $50-$75 more per night than a hotel room.
There are not many places that are ski-in-ski-out with an indoor pool. I'm pretty sure the Chateaux in the Peak 9 Village complex has a pool, though it looked pretty small in the one picture I found. Beaver Run Resort has an indoor pool and SISO, but it tends to be a lot more expensive. I also think Main Street Station does, but it also is more expensive and is at the far side of the "Village" complex, so it looks like quite a walk for little ones.
The Cedars townhomes and Trails End condos are along the side of the trail, just below Great Divide, in about the best skiing location of the group, but no pool.
I was pretty impressed with skihills.com. If you call the phone number on their website, a phone menu narrows down your geographical area and connects you to a human being who knows the properties.
Theres seems to be so much cross-listing that all the mainstream sources (the ski area web site, bookit.com, skihills.com, etc) have the same places at just about the same prices. The non-ski sites did not seem to be any better (travelocity, expedia, etc).
The exception is the small outfits that manage and list their own properties, and the vrbo listings. Several were recommended in the thread where I asked for advice (http://forums.epicski.com/showpost.p...66&postcount=1
The hocksnest site referenced there had a little more complete break down of ski-in-ski-out vs ski-in-walk-to-lifts vs walk-to-lifts vs .... than some of the others. The big commercial agents are purposely vague about where their properties are.
A lot of people recommend www.vrbo.com
- vacation rentals by owner - but I did not find anything too great there. YMMV.
Bottom line, I think - if you can handle all of you in one hotel room, go with what you've found.
