Attention Ski Shop Owners-Wine Women & Wax, Success!

Volklgirl and I joined another of our female ski buddies and headed out to Wine Women & Wax, Hosted by Brick Wheels, in Traverse City Michigan, tonight.

The night included complimentary wines from the area, a cheese and dessert table. There were vendor tables from a ski resort, chocolate shop, Specialty Coffee's, among others.

^Volklgirl and Trekchick^

They set up a beautiful tent with Beautiful Auction items for a silent auction. All proceeds from the silent auction went to the Womens Resource Center(for battered women).

FEMALE attendees recieved 25% off purchases during the event and a voucher for 15% off anything from now until November 15th.

(pst, phil, do you see any skis in that rack you want?)
When we arrived, we were amazed at the turnout. The parking lot was full, cars were parked down the street, and at parking lots of adjacent business'.
Brick Wheels has done a great job with this event and generated tremendous donations for a good cause.

This event was HUGE!
I must admit, I found some things I just had to have, and at a savings, too!

Very, very cool A lot of good can come out of these kinds of events. Hope other shops/resorts/etc. take note!

OK- so a ski shop had a successful event- what would an event at a ski area with a similar marketing focus look like?

I took advantage of the discount, and saved a lot of money by buying a Northface vest with the WWW logo, a Ski Zip up sweater, and some new ski gloves.

I won this Swix luggage package

My Girlfriend bought new boots!

I felt really bad for volklgirl. When you get in a closed space with me and donna you have no chance of getting a word in edge-ways. Sorry volklgirl.
We really need to do this again!

I think this is one of the best marketing genius ideas I've seen in a long time.
I can imagine, holding an event like this about this time of year, or maybe even in September. Catch the women just as they start getting the new season interest, give them a deal on season passes if they sign up with another female(two or more in a group)
If you sell a woman a season pass she WILL get her money's worth.
This could be a great idea for resorts to get the female numbers up!

At this event,
The first 100 women arriving got a Cup(as seen above) with some goodies in it. The cup included, a sample of powder for a power drink, energy bar, and a few comp cards for tanning sessions, and a pedicure.

There must have been a ton of work into planning this event. I'll do some checking today to find out the numbers they had in attendance.

Prime colour is the second week of October. Trees are all bare now and waitng for a blanket of snow.

I talked with Kristi from Brick wheels and am in awe of the details and great people they got involved to make this such a great event

There were over 350 women in attendance!

The wine was served by - Chateau' Grand Traverse
Coffee was served by - So Good Coffee of Traverse City
Impress Salon provided hand waxing and complimentary shampoo samples
Live music was performed by - Windy Ridge Band
The Womens Resource Center was represented( of course!), as well as Crystal Mountain Resort, Timber Ridge (nordic trails), Cherry Capitol Cycle Conservation, Traverse Women Rec Trails, were all represented as well as the normal shop reps(Nordica, technica, etc.....) to provide information. Oh and Phil, Cherry Capitol Subaru sponsored the event, too! Maybe there is a place for Phil at Wine Women and Wax after all.:

Kudos to Kristi and the gang at Brick Wheels for pulling all of these people together to make it happen.

Bump for Stoke on the Upcoming Wine Women and Wax event!

I just wanted to add a comment on this thread.

In our family -- me, my wife, two girls 8 and almost 10 -- I tend to make all the gear buying decisions. My wife - who by nature and nurture is a squirrel - tends to dismiss the need for new gear and we often end up at odds. Not only does this leave me constantly strategizing my next gear purchase, but I end up having to try to talk her into new stuff for herself too. Case in point -- I just talked her into new boots last year -- and she reluctantly gave up the > 15 year old rear entry Lange's she had been using!!!! (BTW, bought and fitted boots at our local shop).

Now, I suspect there are a lot of women who ARE into gear as much as the next guy, but probably many more situations like my own. However...my wife would definitely love to attend an event like the one that TC and VG attended, and hearing other women discuss gear in a setting like that would help her realize it's not just me constantly wanting new toys. (OK, that's part of it!).

Great idea by the shop owner(s). And if we can add a beer night for the guys...yeehaw!

Oh baby, I already proposed that. Perhaps you can help plan.

I wish they has something like this out here on the front range...

If they do I don't know about it...

My wife would be there, no questions asked...

i would encourage her to go...

Sounds like a win win all the way around...

All sounds great except for the "waxing" part. I wouldn't think all you women would really want to get you depilatory issues addressed in such a community venue. Maybe I'm wrong??
Wait a minute the wax is like in bikini wax? I thought it was ski wax...no seriously I thought the waxing was for skis....I was thinking what a strange concept drunk women tuning skis....hey whatever works.
^ it was only a matter of time....

....

I'd love to see events like that around here. Maybe they have them? I never heard of one. My wife would love it! The local Harley dealer has bike nights for women--my wife loves those. And since most of her (female) friends who ski are pinheads, she'd have a great time meeting more alpine women older than the average liftie, and get deals on stuff!

An interesting note: in the XC world, there usually aren't things like this because it is so....already integrated?

You'd be surprised what a girl will do in public for the love of the sport

For those of you who'd like to see something like this in your area, talk to your shops about it. Print my posts out and print the pictures showing all the women buying stuff.

There is another option:

Along the way she found herself revolutionizing the thinking of the entire snow sports industry. Jeannie Thoren has spent the last 30 years researching the way women ski. As a competitor, she found that to perfect her own skiing she needed to make some serious adjustments to her ski equipment. Jeannie has pioneered the notion that the wrong equipment is the biggest factor keeping women from progressing in skiing. Women’s bodies are different than men’s. Therefore, their equipment needs to be different. Jeannie has been sharing her expertise and solving the problems of other women skiers since 1980.

Jeannie was named “One of the 100 Most Influential Skiers of the Century” by Ski Magazine and one of the “Top 25 Most Influential People in Skiing in the last 50 Years” by Skiing Magazine.
