Looking for ways to meet more 30-40 someting skiers

My wife and I are looking for new people to share times skiing. We live in Sarasota, Fl. I'm a 8+ level skiier, my wife is a 4. We ski 30+ days a year, and have a place in Snowmass. We are 35 and 36 years old, and very active.

Not many her in Sarasot are like us. Few here in Sarasoa ski, or ski well; and most of the people around us are either on the old side, or spend their winter time boating. All my FL buds are die hard divers, and have no mountain skills. While I could invite them and teach them--I just don't want to be spending my escape time teaching them, and their wives/girlfriends how to ski.

We have tried the local ski clubs, and they seem to be set up just for selling trips. Since we have a place, can travel when we want (no kids), it is hard to find a fit. Strangely, we can't get anyone to go with us. It is always the same--"We don't ski," "We have kids," "We can't get away from work," "Its too cold and I'm a flat land warm weather loving wimp. . ."

And, while I don't mind marketing, I'm tired of inviting business contacts that can't ski, or who just hang around the place or shop. Anyway, I ski for fun, not work.

We need new ski friends --real skiers -- but we are NOT LOOKING FOR SWINGERS!

Any suggestions for regional or national clubs? Are there any "classified" sites for normal, non-swinger 30 somethings looking for new ski friends?

Sounds like you need to move!

Or swap your ski gear for diving gear!

There are tons of active couples in Aspen/Snowmass. Try taking some of the local's clinics thru the ski co, maybe an avi course or do some volunteer work.
Send me a pm before you come out, I'll introduce you to some people.

I'm an competitive speafisherman when not skiing--so the dive gear stays. And, I'd move if I work could go with me. Can't shake the yoke!

If we had swingers on epicski, I wouldn't need to hang out behind the dumpster at my favorite bar.

Whew I thought I was the only one who caught that! I'm seriously dying laughing over here, sorry but I thought it was funny. I have some friends going to Snowmass December 2-9 if you will be there then send me a message and I will get you in touch with them. Oh p.s they are not swingers!

(That was you?)

You all know my answer already....."The Gathering" in N. Lake Tahoe....the "Let's Go Colorado" events and the other mini-gatherings that are starting up, like the Chicago Skiers and "Phil's bumpfest".

Go to the Meet on the Hill forum....great place to start.

I'm wondering if that was secret swinger internet lingo for "we really are swingers"

Seriously though, next time your heading out to CO just start a thread here. Plenty of 30-40 somethings on this board that (I'm sure) would be happy to meet up with you kids for some skiing.

Come on out to CO--lots of folks happy to ski with you. Last year my SO and I (we're over 40, we only swing on the tire hung from the tree in the front yard ) were at JJ's, I think, at Copper to see Moe Dixon. Half the place was filled with members of the Miami Ski Club, which is (someone correct me if I'm wrong) one of the largest ski clubs in the US. They seemed like a jolly good bunch of folks (man, could they sing too!), so there's another idea for ya!

Aside from excellent coaching the Dave Murray Ski Camp at Whistler is a great way to meet people from all over the world of like age and skiing ability.

I went last year and only met one other person from BC. Very social atmosphere, great people and great coaches.

Whistler is a long way fron Florida, though. Maybe there's something like it at Snowmass?

That is my evil twin's work bio. The true me is a nomad trying to find fresh tracks. . .

Also, I now sport a short beard. That picture makes me look 20.

At least you recognize it. My firm bio pic is equally embarrassing, albeit for other reasons.

But as a lawyer who lives 3.25 hours from the slopes (early and late season, no traffic), I can't really understand why you say you can't practice in a more practical location. Hell, your firm has an office 10 minutes away from me in Palo Alto. And I know plenty of people who work in SF, live in the East Bay, and are an hour closer. Despite common perception, we even have other Fasceralists around here. Other relocation options I've considered include Salt Lake, Denver, and Seattle, although they're all harder to break into without a real local tie. Still, seek and ye shall find.

That assumes, of course, that there aren't other reasons you're tied to Sarasota, e.g. family.

Alpinedad, We have offices in lots of places. I'm tied to Sarasota/Tampa for business reasons. But, that can be changed. . .

Assuming that the business reasons involve people, how often do you actually see them in person? Half the battle is just getting yourself on their schedule. Whenever I have a substantial East Coast matter, I just shift my schedule so that I get into the office really early.

Are swingers that prevalent?

Swingers? It sure seems so... Had a few weird responses when I posted somethig similar elsewhere. Perhaps I was on the wrong site then. Maybee all the XXs should have tipped me off. . .
