Sneak Peek - Elan 2008 Lineup (and I met Glen Plake!) - Page 2

n3o - someone will need to explain this to us (maybe dawgcatching). You're correct that the Elan brochure lists the Speedwave series (with WaveFlex technolgy) with a "range" for the sidecut radius. However, the new 2008 brochure that I saw did not do this for the Magfire series with WaveFlex. So I'm not really sure why.

I can't come up with a good reason as to why WaveFlex would result in a "variable" sidecut radius - at least not when used alone. Heck, I'm not even sure Elan is trying to imply a variable sidecut radius when they print the range of 10-16. We need someone from Elan who is "in the know" on this one.

It looks like this is a scanned shot from a newspaper. It also looks like it was trying to be a "color" shot. From this pic it almost looks like the new Speedwave 14 is gray in color, but I don't recall that from the 2008 brochure. I remember it still being green just like this season.

have you noticed that elan logo is rather different then the corporate one-the design I think....on the other hand the shape is the same as on the Magmabut I like it though

83.33% true. Magfire 10 is without WaveFlex.

Perfect Sense!
After talking to Phil a bit here, and Elangirl on SkiDiva, I'm getting more and more eager to try out some of the 08 models.

The only thing my quiver really lacks is a race style ski. Do I hear a Ski Shop calling me?:

I hope Head or Rossignol dont get their hands on Elan....

Those Magmas are going to clash with my slime Kryptons.

Hmmmm. Interesting, the boots that are in the picture are Dolomites and not Dalbello.

dookey67: i'm not terribly hip on ski technology, but the first i saw of manufacturers changing the dimensions on the same model of ski was 4Frnt and Armada and some of the other park specific companies. i haven't noticed many of the major companies practising this (other than Blizzard, but then they've always been kind of boutique).

Elan has been doing this for many years. My 2003 Elan HCX Hyper had different dimensions at different lengths.

OK - I took a look at the Powerpoint preso of the 2008 Elan lineup.

What the heck is an Isometric Hologram Topsheet (as seen on the new Speedwave 14/12 and Magfire Magma)? Has anyone seen this in person who can comment?

Another interesting observation - the new 999 WOOD no longer has titanium sheets like previous generations of the 999. It now has a carbon and wood core. We already new that it lost the twin tip.

The preso also reinforced that the new 888 is definitely on the top of my demo list for next season (as long as I'm skiing again). With a nice sidecut, 2 Ti layers, and an aluminum topsheet skin, it looks like it could be my kind of ride. My only question is whether the sidecut dimensions will vary in length like I saw in the brochure - the preso doesn't show that. Can anyone confirm?

I am told the 888 will be THE ski for 08.

Damnit Phil, will you please make up your mind. Are you a Blizzard man or are you going to be an Elan man. All this flip flopping is getting me dizzy. Which is it?

I am a people person.

I will be with Blizzard until next season, when I will be switching over to Elan. I am helping the current Dalbello/Elan (former Blizzard) Rep get rid of his old inventory. If tha means me having to pick up some extra skis to help him out, so be it.

I will say, these current Blizzards were vastly under rated, I am disappointed I found them just as things changed.

That is a transparent top sheet with 3D effect. Combined with WaveFlex waves it looks powerful. Seems like you can see into the ski.

Has anyone had a chance to demo the 2008 Elans as of yet?
I have, and am very impressed.

See my review here

If the Elan Magfire 12 is anything like the Elan Wave Spice, as described in the Elan literature, it should blow you away!
