European Report: USST's Bode Miller resists calls to ski more conservatively
By Andrew Hood
December 31, 2003
Bode Miller says he's resisting calls by U.S. Ski Team coaches to ski more conservatively and gain points after his run at the 2003-04 overall World Cup title has taken a tumble lately.

Writing in a Denver Post diary, Miller says he won't abandon his all-or-nothing racing style to play it safe.

"When coaches say, 'Look, you have to hold back, ski conservative, just make it down, just get some points,' I'm like, 'Guys, I'm not a rookie anymore, I've been doing this for a long time, I like the way I do it because it makes me feel good," Miller wrote.

"The coaches are a bit more fickle. That's the nature of coaches. They've been having emergency meetings, 'We need to skip races,' 'We need to do training,' the same stuff I've always dealt with when I go through a streak of pushing it too hard or bad luck or whatever it is," Miller continued. "At this point I think I have enough pull that I can say: 'Look, you guys, calm down, have a bit more faith. I don't need to go back and start racing NorAms.'"

Miller, second overall last year, got off to a raucous start, reeling in victories at the season-opener in Soelden and then again at Park City. But he missed out on points in three races at Beaver Creek and has hit just one podium since then. Miller sits eighth overall and has yet to score points in the slalom.

"A lot of it has to do with tactics and the way I choose to compete. Obviously I want to win the overall, but in my opinion those kinds of results should be a representation of a season you can be proud of. If I'm not pushing it, I'm sandbagging and get fifth in every race all year in every event and I win the overall that way, I'm just not going to feel that great about it," he wrote. "That's not enough for me, just to have the award sitting in my closet."

Bode....YOU ARE THE MAN....!!!!

ALL OR NOTHING...

THAT'S THE THINKING OF A TRUE SKI RACER...!!!

If you have ever have trained to race...
How many times in training where you told by the coaches...

Think fast and find the true line...
or should I say...(""THE ZONE"")

I have seen Bode race this year at Winter Park at the NOR-AMS, and got a chance to talk to him...He told me that he is really looking forward to this season, because after this summer's training, he is in great shape, and of course what has happened
so far in the World Cup.

I like the way Bode is looking this year, and I like the way he is thinking...

I would like to hear what the Coaches from Epicski think.

Having fun in more than a FOOT of the white stuff..!!!
