Boots don't appreciably flex across their width?   Super, excellent !   So why keep a binding engagement lug design from back in the day when they did flex?

70mm alpine lugs should be as dead as 50mm 3-pin XC lugs.

Hey...I still ski 3-pin!

I can see no reason the boot would fit or wear differently by a change in the lug width.

And stack height of the boot sole is a non issue even for wider powder skis, look how high most bindings (yes even those with 100mm+ brakes) put you.

Even without aditional risers for hard snow/racing applications. It's not because of the boot.

You guys read to much marketing hype!

You're not seeing a vital  part of the change: where the center of the new, fatter lug gets drilled out to accommodate the foot, so that the lug surrounds the toes instead of being under them.

I will bet you ski 75mm 3 pin and not 50mm 3pin.

Look on the pile of dead standards, toss aside all the old Salomon XC stuff and 50 mm will be in there.

Why not just get wider feet?

I read ZERO marketing hype.  I just look at the ridiculous set ups and see a huge design gap.  Just thought, why still the skinny boots and skinny bindings?  There was an obvious need for them when most skis were that way.  Not so much now though.  I've been on this rant for several years now.  If anything, the marketing hype is following me instead of vice versa.

And FWIW, they could probably add notches to fatter boot lugs to accommodate both binding footprints so fear not ancient one.

Now back to the quiver photos..

I once heard a rumor that VolantAddict uses his quiver as a shaving mirror, but that myth is BUSTED!

Speaking of that Noodler guy, where's he been?  Oh yeah, it was Summer and he doesn't think about skiing until Labor Day.

So my 2012-13 quiver shot will be coming.  It's big and I'm shameless so I guess this is the right place.  I have 4 new sets of skis waiting for me to get off my ass and do some binding mounts.  Once all the girls are pretty I'll take a shot of them and post up.

I am sooooo ready for ski season!

Retro, retro, (one more retro that is in hiding at the moment), Groomer, Daily Driver, Big Mt ski day, Powder, Rock

I will likely spend most of my days on the Sambas, but the Dakotas are soooo much fun I couldn't resist.

We all know how much I love the Kastle on the front side and a girls gotta Yvette as her bff on a powder day.

The Chubbs were awesome last week when we hit Squaw on the season opener!  VA would be proud.

Haven't had them for a couple years.

Honestly, The more my skills improved the more I didn't like how stiff they are for their intended purpose.

My skis and my wife's skis. I am 5'-11", 160 lbs my wife is 5'-7" XX lbs. We actually share a fair amount of these and do often thanks to railflex, speed rail and demo bindings. And yes, we are completely shameless.

I count 24 pairs of modern skis and 4 vintage.

I think this closes this thread.

That's for 2 people.  There are plenty of other folks here hoarding 14 + pairs of skis at any given time.  Present company includedwink.gif

You just need to catch up with the Jones'stongue.gif

that barely makes table stakes in this crowd biggrin.gif.  just did a quick check in the closet. Got it down to 28 pairs non-vintage (me) +3 (wife) mounted up and ready to go.  Definitely need to thin out a bit more.

Who rides the odd pair in the second photo? Volkl Tigershark on the left foot and ... er ... not sure what it is on the other  smile.gif

I gave up on this thread when it became too difficult to get all of my skis in one room and when I lost the ability to count all of the pairs I own on my hands :/. I'll return someday...
