Push

Has anyone seen Matchstick Production's ski movie "Push" yet? The premier was in Boston a week or so ago but I had to work so I didn't see it. I have the preview on a podcast and it is unreal. The switch double back flip in Whistler was sick!

Im just wondering how good it is and if it is worth picking up a copy.

I ordered a copy, but they had some sort of problem with production so it hasn't arrived yet.

Just received my copy today, can't wait to watch it! I haven't even seen the trailer or anything, I just bought all three from MSP, TGR, and Warren Miller. I think I need to have a ski movie night tonight!

It may have been the sickest ski flick I've seen in a while, way more riding than air this year, not enough CO skiing though Of course I did get to see it while I was rather wasted at the Boulder Theatre where the mood is always hopping around ski movies...

::EDIT:: Did you get Pull with it? If so let me know what the big difference between the two is...

Ya like I said...the trailer was unbelievable...I watch it every night when I get home from work. Theres a great song in it to by a band I've never heard of called "Wolfmother", it goes with the trailer perfectly.

If I like this trailer so much, why havent I just purchased the movie??

I saw it last week in Boston, do yourself the favor and definately get yourself a copy. Unreal footage, music and some good funny moments as well.
A greater emphasis on actual skiing and a bit less in hucking, but some of the hucks are just mindblowing.
the Double huck at Jackson with the crowd on the cliff with their mouths in their throat is just one of those all time classic epic ski film moments, just awesome.
So yes, get a copy for sure.
Aloha till next time, pray for snow* ** * ***

Great scene, but I think Mike Wilson's double back was at Squaw.

Got it in the mail a few days ago and watched Push and Pull. Both excellent and highly recommended. Good mix of big mountain, technical trees and pillows, crazy stunts, and the kids throwing down park and pipe steeze. I'm usually not a big one for pipe but Simon Dumont's segment in Push is very cool. McConkey has some nice helmet cam footage. Ingrid steps it up again this year really pushing it for the ladies. Eric Hjorleifson is becomming one my favorite skiers to watch, particularly his spot in Pull.

Pull has gives each skier their own segment and shows some additional footage or puts it together to a different theme so its watchable on its own and doesn't feel like a sheer rehashing off Push. MSP has done a great job of this with both this and the Hit List.

I finally watched Push tonight. Last night was TGR's Anomaly. While watching Anomaly last night I was glad that I had picked it to watch first. It was "ok" and I knew that MSP would be a bit better. The first three minutes in and I could tell that this was gonna be a good one. I believe they did a great job with Push and can't wait to watch Pull within the next day or two.

I'm not much of a pipe fan either, but Simon's segment was way cool I thought. MSP's photography is just top notch. All of the footage they had was sick. McConkey went off as usual, too bad he took that hell-acious wipeout though. Mike Wilson is a lunatic. The double-backflip was sick. There was also a sick switch double-back thrown in there as well. All-in-all, a KILLER ski flick IMO. A definite must-buy!

Not sure who's doing it, but you can clearly see a switch double backflip served up at Whistler.

Check the trailer at 2:17, see it here.

Sure to be one of the Whistler boys, Douglas, Abma, Hjorleifson, etc but I'd guess it's Rory Bushfield.

I just love the shot in the trailer at 3:24.
Can't watch that 4 seconds enough times. I can't wait to get PUSH/PULL!

Hope Ingrid has a big seg, just love her skiing style - so liquid.

The double backflip they're talking about above is a regular hucked off a cornice inbounds at a resort somewhere. There is a crowd of people standing at the top of the run watching on as he throws it. I'm not sure where it is, but it looks similar to Corbet's at JH.

Ingrid has plenty of camera time this year. She's ripping it up quite well. Very nicely done.

Good god! Do you mean backflipping INTO Corbet's? Yowsa! What's next?!

Good to hear about Ingrid's camera time. The night before a big day I'll watch some of Hit List or Yearbook (usually Hit List, especially Hjorleifson's opening run, etc) to get stoked, then I'll watch Ingrid so I have what I see as a kind of skiing perfection in my mind. Next day, I try to remember how she looked so I can correct things as I ski.
I copy the guys, too, but being a straight guy maybe I'm more drawn to her brand of skiing perfection.

Gratuitous Ingrid pic

DISCLAIMER: I don't know where it was, but it looks like something similar to Corbet's from what I've seen in pics here. It's some resort, inbounds, with fans watching on and a cornice/cliff that's big enough to, well... double-backflip off of with a nice smooth runoff. I don't know where it was, but it was SICK!

Agreed, but definitely Squaw....

Did anybody else think that the intro to Push was unreal?

Dude, go buy the movie for 20 bucks and support a struggling industry.

Our club just received sponsorship from an MSP distributor. Free MSP screenings! I haven't seen Push yet, but it's coming soon.

Yeah, the Push trailer got me hooked on their song Mind's Eye, and I'm now expanding.

As far as Mind's Eye goes, the recipe sounds like:

1 cup Black Sabbath - Paranoid
1 cup Boston - Boston
teaspoon Alice Cooper - School's Out
a pinch of Deep Purple - Machine Head

For such young guys they must have a pretty good classic '70's rock collection.
OK, I just checked, they were born in the mid-seventies. that explains it.

I've also been watching the trailer every night... methinks it's time to go buy it.

Just bought it after my class this morning... Epic might even be an understatement, but that's just my opinion.

If anyone wants to join me, I'm doing a snow dance right now, fire and all, in my backyard.

the huge double backflip was done off Palisades at Squaw Valley USA by Mike Wilson. I know this because i was one of many up there watching him do it.
