true confensions of a former knuckle draggerwell tele you know I did this I maybe one of the few snowboarders who switched to skiing.
Well first let me start out by saying beside soccer I ahve allways been a 'action sports" kid I raced BMX from 9-11 and dirt jump until I was around 16. I also did alot of street/park Rollerblading and actually still go to skateparks when I can..
I allways felt shut inside during the winter and pretty much hated winter because I couldnt go ride my bike. Then came a riding buddy who said hey maybe you should try snowboarding. This was around 14. I would take maybe 10 trips a year to Hidden Valley and Seven Springs with some more to Boyce Park because it was so close and cheap. When I turned 16 I started to drive and and that winter I had my own car and because of the very cheap season passes at Hidden Valley, thats where I got mine. Spent probably about 30-40 days for 2 seasons up there boarding, man did I love the rare powder days that I would skip high school to go to. boarded a ton in the park too favorite grab to this day is a method.
As senior in High school one of my semi pro-rollerblade friends told me about these new skis coming out that were just like rollerblading on the snow. Yep Skiboards, I bit the bullet and bought myself a pair of them and as most of this board know they are incrediably easy to ski on, very fun and every turn you do is a carve turn. Realistically I all I skied on them was park and soon discovered that these new skis sucked in the only thing I really like about snowboarding ....powder. In the park though they rocked and make fun of them all you want but doing misty's and backflips, and 720 was way fun. Still not even that close to good on park skis....
The next year 02-03 I decided to try out some "big skis" lucky for me the company that made my skiboards was making skis now...so I got some line 1260s and started my skiing "career" December 19th, 2002 I pretty much sucked at first. I knew how to do from the skiboards was carve turns. Steering and stopping eluded me a for a couple weeks, and i had some really embassing falls in lift lines as I tried to walk with my skis on. I was able to 360 and 540 my first day on skis though.
Flash foward almost 5 years to my first ski day, and its amazing that I ahve based my whole life on sliding on snow.
