Surfing EpicSki at Work

Thread Starter
I often keep an EpicSki window open on my computer at work.

Between calls, I sometimes peruse updates on subscribed threads.

Today, I was amazed at how many threads were updated, and how quickly, during the work day. Weekends, I've noticed, tend to be much slower.

Of course, even noticing this trend implicates me - guilty as charged.

Although I'm the boss, I don't let my employees see me do it (a bad example). I feel like a naughty boy, looking over my shoulder.

How many here sneak EpicSki posts at work?

Sneak? I do it blatantly! (at work now)

Anything with the word "forums" in the URL is blocked at my work. Any chance of changing that?

Do you think I'd have 3,500 posts if I only posted from home?

Sales are down..posting is up. Or is it the other way around?

The assumption is that people work the day shift, M-F, in the US. It's a big world.

We have lots of stuff blocked at work, I'm there now ---TGR is blocked due to streaming content---but so far, epic is available.

Too right. There's people from europe, a few from asia, some from Australia and NZ. It's late night (TUESDAY!) here, for instance.

Guilty and no remorse!

Like you, Captain, I keep an Epic window open most all day! The computer I'm on is not used much for day to day transactions.

it would be nice if this could be done in a stealth mode...I don't see that option here...

I'm with WTFH!
Blatant posting, unapologetic posting at your service!

I'm a student...so I don't have a "real" job, but we have a lot of free time at work so it's all spent on the computer. I've noticed a lot of people must be on Epic during work. Last Friday, there was a ton of people on it...in the middle of the day.

The group i'm in at work runs the web server. So I guess I can take a peek at epic once in a while.

You can use a proxy server, which allows you to bypass the filter, log in, and post normally. The only disadvantage is that it is significantly slower than your normal browser.

I used this one when I had blocking issues, it works very well in its self-contained version of firefox.

Epic isn't a problem, but a lot of the picture and video posting websites are blocked such as youtube, so I get a lot of boxes with an "X" in them, and I get denied looking at some of the MA footage...

If it wasn't for sites such as this and others I post on regularly I would be on some serious medication by now to quash the boredom of my "work". I was done for the day (and potentially the week) by 9:15am so I have to fill the rest of the week somehow :

Now that I have all the bosses distinctive walking sounds sorted out in my brain from all the other worker bees' walks, its happy surfing all day long with my EpicSki window ready to hide with just a flick of the wrist - right behind my eBay window, which is right behind my dummy MS Word report window. : True that.

Yup, me too.

I spend so much time on here at work, I don't even get on my computer at home.....I'm paying for cable modem at home why?

Visiting EpicSki from work is sometimes our only outlet. Who wants to surf at home? With projects, kids, trailrunning, and beer.
As the IT systems administrator for my company I can say that if I ever have to start sending my Inet data through a proxy then I will surely leave it wide open for EpicSki.com

PS posted from work.

I started out posting on the weekends, but all of a sudden I can't login from my home computer (first gen G4). I can login, but then when it bumps back to the main page it says that I'm not logged in.

I suspect it's a glitch due to the fact that I'm still running OS9 and Explorer is always buggy with Macs.

Which relegates me to work.

Sites like this get me through the day!

i was also the boss

and i fired myself----------------------to ski more

I wouldn't think of surfing at work, well today that is. I was only there for 4 hours. I spent to much time on the car forum's or trying to see when Killington or Okemo were going to start making snow.
Beside that I have to fit some work in there somewhere. It's tuff sometimes.

Guilty as charged! Bonzai, you sound like you have the same job!
Not just here, but MTBR also.

I notice at MTBR 90% of postings seem to occur during the North American working hours.

Posting seems to give my brain a rest and thus I am a more efficient worker. :

Why do you think my monitor is turned so nobody that walks by or into my office can see what is on the screen!?

I am an IT consultant working on a local government project ... it doesn't matter how many times I tell 'em I have nothing to do (and by the way 3 10 minute jobs don't add up to a full week's workload) ... the client keeps asking me to come back and naturally my company is happy to comply. I am learning totally new ways to be inefficient ... wow there are some I never thought of : : Strange thing is I seem to do well at finding such projects ... oh well at least the stress level is low .... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Any ways I have my Whistler season pass sorted so that's the most important thing ... back to dreaming of snow ....aaaaaaaaaaaaa

I claim my monitor is turned "for reasons of confidentuality (sp?)" I also face the door to my office.

Roflol

Ha! Here I thought I was the only one surfing at work. I used to be on at my old job, but the proxy servers at this one block Epic but not TGR--go figure! All "forums" are marked chat and thus blocked!:
