Newbie here! I'm a member on several car-related forums, and I quickly learned a community like this is the type of place to improve on a skill or locate the best research.
Last winter was my first time skiing. I was convinced by a few friends to join them on a Colorado trip in December 2012. A few days before we left, they told me I should at least get some time in on one of the local ski hills here in SE Michigan. I was hooked after about an hour! I felt pretty good at my ability to pick up skiing considering I'm not known for having much coordination or athletic ability! Later that week we skiied 3 full days in Colorado (Loveland, Keystone, & Breck I think...). By the end of the first day I was keeping up with my friends (who have all been skiing/boarding for a while) down most of the groomed blues and any of the greens.
Later that winter we revisited Colorado in February. We hit a different resort every day on that trip, too. Thus far I think we've visited Vail, Breck, A-Basin, Loveland, Keystone, & Beaver Creek. I was totally 110% addicted to big mountain skiing about 1hr into my first day on the mountain in Colorado. When I say addicted, that might be an understatement. Luckily, the group of guys I went with is on par with my addiction, and they were happy to add a member to their cult, haha.
I bought some used Head 160cm skis before the first trip. I think I've now experienced enough types of weather and terrain (relative to my experience) to have an idea of what I want regarding gear, so I've been buying gear and attire I should have had last year (I froze a few times...). I think I've just about finished my shopping (haha, yea right...).
Funny how you learn about your gear so quickly when the weather gets below 10 degrees F. :) Double lenses on goggles? Why would you need two lenses?
Anyway, I hope to gain some insight here once the season begins. I've bought the Epic Local pass for this season, so I'll be skiing at all the Vail resorts this winter (+ they bought Mt. Brighton here in Michigan!). I have two trips planned to Colorado so far, and hoping to make it 3 or 4!
