First Chair: New Member Introductions - Page 21

Hi all, newbie to the forum, but definitely not to the sport. I grew up skiing the pristine, uncrowded slopes of Montana, and continue to do so as often as I can today. I look forward to chatting with all of you!

I'm new as well. Great forums!

Hello Bears,

Like so many others before me on this thread, I have been lurking and using the information on this site for a while.

I was initially was introduced into skiing by taking a city recreational bus up on the weekends, as no one in my immediate family skis. Then I let college get in the way, and after a good sized break was re-introduced when a golfing buddy mentioned a few years ago he was getting excited to see some snow. Well since I didn’t really feel like buying orange golf balls to go out golfing by myself, I had to find something else to do right?

Well that was the bait on the hook, and after getting set, I was surprised by how easy it was to take up again vs. feeling like a fish out of water as I recalled the first few days on the slopes. Now, for the last two years I rarely miss a weekend and have started to see some real improvements but have so much more to learn it is humbling.

This forum and the information gathered here has saved me so much time and grief. All the equipment I purchased for this season, I searched for and got information on from this site before I went to the store. The current news updates, tips and stoke keep the unlimited possibilities alive and I have avoided many of the setbacks associated with improvement. THANK YOU.

Now… Just don’t tell my “other” golf buddies that I skipped out on that Pro Am because I was saving time off from work for a POW day!

First time poster, long time lurker.

My ski story....
12/2007- Visited a buddy in Denver with my wife (living in the dirty south at the time), took a side trip to Winter Park & we did a snowboard lesson/ticket/rental pkg....LOVED IT! I was riding blues with confidence by the end of the day.

Got trapped on the MTN during the crazy snow storm. Friends wife had a meltdown on us (cabin fever +post prego depression = crazy ho) so we caught the train back to Denver. Lost a friend but got a new obsession...SNOW!

Fast forward to last Winter...relocated to Wisconsin, we were stoked to see all the ski hills in the area. Learned to xc ski (skate style) & decided I liked xc skiing so much that I would try DH skiing. Tried it. Hooked now.

Got in about 12 days last season. We bought skis from CL this year & are up to 5 days this season.

Skiing is all I can think about now.

Welcome to the best leisure activity and sport known!
Welcome back and good health going forward.

New to this forum, but familiar with other ski forums. I find these forums helpful and fun ... hooking up with people to ski, getting some good advice and opinions on gear, reading about snow conditions, etc.

For the past 3 years I have been living and loving life in Vancouver, and love how the mountains are oh so close

I started skiing when I was 4. Once I hated my parents for putting me in countless ski lessons, but thanks to them, today I have become a chick that rips.

Growing up, I have many fond memories of great family ski trips and consider myself lucky to be part of a ski family. Till I moved out West, my skiing involved once a year resort trips and groomers in Collingwood, Ontario.

Now living out here, I want to take full advantage of my environment - the beautiful BC terrain - which is why I got into backcountry skiing and touring.

Why Spark!?

Well I skied in Tahoe Easter 2006 after it was puked on. My first real taste of pow And from then on, you could say that my powder addiction was sparked, and now I can’t get enough.

Well, I was a rank beginner last year. This year, I have season passes to the local hill (Bittersweet), and am planning a trip or 2 up to Crystal Mt. in Michigan.

Great to have found this forum. Said a bit about myself in another post. But basically, I'm a long time woman skier who left the sport for the past decade or so because work got too busy and my partner doesn't ski. But for some reason, this season I'm just not willing to stay off the slopes any longer. Age 55. Started skiing at about age 12. Ski instructed a bit in college, but it was always a part-time gig. Most of my skiing up until college was around Lake Tahoe (any one remember the old Echo Ski Summit? My first lift ticket there cost me $1.50. Later, my first ticket at Heavenly cost me $6, which seemed a fortune). Since my late 20s, my skiing has been in Oregon, with some trips to Colorado and Utah.

I'm excited to get back into the sport. The technology these days really seems overwhelming, but little by little I'm figuring out what's what. I've always been a gear-head, and I love the technical side of everything. More amazing, though, is the communication that the internet provides. Forums like this have changed the information available so dramatically -- and for the good.

Thanks for being such a generous community with your advice, expertise, and opinions.

New member greetings!

Hello everyone!

I just registered here after reading others' discussions for over a year! Figured it was high time to join and contribute what I know from time to time!

I live in Colorado for school and chose so because of the access to skiing! ...and to get out of the desert...

Anywho, look forward to discussing some mountain fun with everyone!

Been looking to this message board as a resource for some time. I began coming here more and more often, and finally decided to register. Pretty much what everyone else said. I'm impressed by how many knowledgeable, passionate people are here and am excited to be involved.

Some me-bullets:

I go by Hoss or Andy.

I'm 27 and have skied since age 3, mostly in VT. I raced for 4 years and worked part time at a ski shop during college in upstate NY.

I now work as a programmer in Boston and don't get out as much, but skiing always occupies a part of my head and this very fact will probably cause me to quit (or lose) my job someday.

Even though I haven't raced for a bit, I still ski with intent and push it. I'm just not very good at taking it easy .

My childhood hero was Alberto Tomba and I still have several posters of him hanging in their original locations in my room at my parents.

I'm a fan of Subarus and have owned three so far.

I also like beer, a lot. Especially after skiing and then pulling a muscle trying to remove my boots.

(If anyone's looking for ski buds in Boston area hit me with a PM)

Hi,
I didn't find an intro space either. Thanks for starting one. I'm in Kansas/Missouri area teaching at a hill with an entire 300ft vertical. Still I get to learn, ski and teach. Got to spend a week in Breck with their trainers, now I know how much I don't know.

Hi everyone, I'm a new member/supporter and have been using the site for information for a short while now. Lots of great informative postings and some fun banter as well!

I'm from Western New York and ski mostly at Holiday Valley. I know there are a few other HV skiers out there as well, but if you have any HV questions, just let me know.

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum.
I love ski. It's my sport prefered.

I began to sk in 1999 when I was 34.

My first resort for ski was La Thuille in Italy near Val d'Isere (France).

I skied in Val d'Isere one year (2004) too. Very beautiful too.

I hope that my experience can be useful for this forum....

Another new one

Hi, I've been skiing a long time and just got back into downhilling after a couple seasons of kite skiing.

Vail's Epic season pass was just too good a deal to pass up this year.

Spent last weekend getting used to my new 190 Gotamas and they were a lot of fun!

New member

Hello, I just found this site and joined. I am looking for some skiing connections in Vail. Anyone out there.
