First Chair: New Member Introductions - Page 17

Hey guys, this would be my first post on these forums. I currently go to the university of Nebraska and am Co-Captain of the Ski club there. We have something like 130 members. It is a pretty sweet deal. 8 of us got the epic pass this season and will ski 30+ days this year.

I am a Jr/Sr Civil Engineer major. I was hardcore into downhill mountain biking until the cost of repairing my bike went way over the benefits, so I recently sold it and purchased some pow skis.

I was an avid poster on mtbr.com and still am. I considered myself very knowledgeable when I posted on a topic. I was previously lurching around TGR forums and decided to join after about 2 days of lurching. I was hounded/FAIL'd by every guy with over 1000 posts. I mean those guys are dicks over there and I have seen these forums comparative to those and A)you guys are just as knowledgable B) you are not hardcore pricks.

Thanks,

Ski Nebraski

Hello

I thought I would post a little something about myself for introduction.

I currently live In PA where I coach junior ski racing at Liberty Mountain. I was a racer for 6 years before going to coaching. Skiing is pretty much my life and I make between 5-10 trips to Vermont (mostly Jay) every winter and at least 1 or 2 trips to Utah. I have way too many skis ranging from race skis to fat pow skis. Looking forward to a great season.

Some pics below to get everyone psyched for the season.

Hey folks, just saw this thread for the first time despite joining last week.

I've been skiing since I was 3, got brought up through Alpine Meadows' snow and ski school programs until I was good enough to ski with my Dad, and since then, aside from a day trip to Kirkwood with a friend and a trip to Whistler in which I skied with a guide, I've almost always skied with my Dad, primarily at Alpine, Squaw, Mt. Rose. I've also skied in Utah, BC, Mt. Bachelor, and south Lake Tahoe.

This season, however, I've moved out of the homestead to Sacramento, gotten equipment, and purchased a season pass. While I'll still do some skiing with my Dad, I will be doing a lot more solo skiing and skiing with friends this year, primarily at Alpine, as that is where I have my pass.

I've gone and seen every Warren Miller movie since Vertical Reality, and my Dad has been seeing them since Warren toured with the crew and narrated in person.

While I was always a Salomon fanboy when I was renting, I ended up purchasing a set of K2 Apache Recons. Maybe I'll meet up with some Bears this year. I'm looking forward to a fantastic season of skiing with significantly more days than I've ever had in the past.

Looking Forward to a Big Winter

Been sking since I was 2 and looking to spend most of my time in the Wasatch range in the deep powder. From the east and learned at Killington, Okemo, and Hunter but then I found Utah and have never been back to Vermont. Looking to buy old equiptment or accessories if anyone is looking to sell.

Greetings from Brazil

Hello everybody!

I just registered today, but i've been reading the forums for a couple weeks.
I found some realy usefull subjects, and people that seem to love snow just as i do!

Well, I'm from Brazil and because of that, I don't have a local mountain... (maybe Valle Nevado, Chile - 1600 miles from São Paulo, my city)
That is funny because we don't have snow or big mountains in Brazil, and most people have never seen snow... but i somehow loved it the first time i saw it...

I've been sking for the last 12 years, skied most resorts in South America (Argentina & Chile), New Zealand, Whistler, Banff, and had the opportunity to work a season in Big Bear lake, California.
Unfortunately, because of the costs and distance, my seasons are short... but next winter (in the Northern Hemisphere) me and my girlfrind are planning a big trip (1 month) to central Rockies (Colorado & Utah)
The Epic Pass seems a real good deal, though people say Vail resorts get really really crowded...

Well, i'll ask you guys some tips about lodging and transportation in Utah as soon as I have a schedule.

Thanks and Greetings from Brazil!

Hi Coach:

Welcome to the Barking Bear forum. Those are some impressive shots of you in the deep powder. Doesn't look like you were skiing Liberty though. Mighty good of you to uphold the honor and present such a great image of ALL Liberty Skiers. Say hi to your dad for me.

Another newb here. I just moved to Colorado from the midwest. Am working from home and have lots of vacation stored up. Looking forward to a good snow year and getting lots of time in at the ski areas on the Colorado Pass (I've never had the chance to ski more than 7 days in a year before). Love skiing anything (although I don't look good doing it most of the time), especially if it's off piste and doesn't require much airtime. Don't much like skiing alone so hoping to meet people to ski with...

See ya on the slopes....

Hey, how's it going? Thanks for the praise. I'll do my best to make Liberty look good. I'll tell my old man you said hi. See you this winter!

Hey guys, another newbe here. I have been reading the forums periodically for a year or two and just registered the other day.

You guys have given me and friends some great insight in planning some of our trips out west to whistler, jackson/GT, etc. as well as on some gear advice.

I live in upstate NY and usually consider gore/whiteface my home mountains. this year we have a long weekend planned for colorado, and a trip to utah in the works. Wondering if anyone has any advice on where to stay in utah in general - park city vs SLC - my first time to utah, and also which mountains to hit up if I have limited time.

Look forward to being in touch

You want to hit the Bird and Alta. Stay in SLC for cheaper lodging and a short drive to the mountains. Don't even waste your time with Park City unless you want groomers or the family atmosphere. This is just my opinion if you are looking for snow and terrain. Have fun!

Powder!!!

Hey all, I'm obviously also new to the forums. Pretty great stuff on Epic.

I just moved from Chicago to Park City and can't wait for a whole season of Utah powder. I'll be skiing at PCMR and the Bird this winter. In the meantime I've been getting out for some epic rides in Park City and the Uintas.

Hey everybody!
I just found this forum and it looks awesome! I live in Nevada City, California, about an hour away from Squaw Valley, Sugar Bowl, etc. I'm 15, and have been skiing since I was 2. I grew up skiing mostly at Squaw, because my dad is a National patroller there, but last year I was on the the Nevada Union High School ski team, and we mostly skied at Sugar Bowl.

Welcome Eric, perhaps I'll see you on the slopes this year.

The ski season is fast approaching! We can tell that by the movement in the first chair thread!
Welcome All!!!
Looking forward to sharing some turns with as many as I can.

Pst, don't follow bud. I hear he needs a compass, and sometimes a passport

What, 12m of snow in PC last year wasn't enough for you? Snob. Of course, the cottonwoods get plenty of snow, as you can find out when the road is closed (again) and you have to spend your day in SLC!

And Park City's nightlife kicks behind.

Sure Park City gets snow but if you are looking for great skiing and could careless about all the other stuff then Alta/Bird is where it's at. Did not mean to talk crap on your mountain, I was just giving my opinion of the Park City area.

Hey how far away are you from Brundage Mt. that place was an absolute blast... I hiked and skied Sgt. Ridge and it was wicked face shots (on tele gear). Love Idaho, but don't quite have the $$$ to start a ski shop, if you know someone that is going to open a place I will be there to help..... right now I am looking in Colorado; then Montana, then Utah, and Idaho is next.

My first post - I just found this site the other day and it looked like fun so here I am. I have been skiing for over 30 years and have made Taos Ski Valley my home mountain for the last 5 of them as I bought a condo there. I have successfully infected my 8 year old daughter and 5 year old son with the ski fever as they have both been on ski's since they were 2. If you are ever in Taos or planning a trip there and have any questions, feel free to give me a shout. Thanks for listening and I look forward to enjoying this fine forum!

Another Taos regular, welcome! Will be there many times this winter. Looking forward to share some turns this winter!

P.S. I envy your location

Thanks Simonbda! Hopefully I will see you there this season
