Does anyone have information or tips on Mountain Biking in NJ? I've been looking to really get into it as a sport but I don't know where to begin.

There is a book, "25 Mountain Biking Tours in NJ," from Peter Kick with most of the more popular rides. I can give you recs on northern NJ.

I'm looking for trails in or near Monnmouth County, so central Jersey.
I'll check out the book you're suggesting.
I've been thinking about trying Allaire State Park next weekend.

A really nice ride in Monmouth County is Hartshorne Woods, and there's another smaller one in nearby Huber Woods. Highly recommended.

Richwood State Park

I've riden Richwood State Park on two different occasions. It's in northern Jersey. There's single track and double track trails. Most of the trails were rolling with some elevation changes. A few years back they held mtb races in the park. The park headquarters has trail maps.

Chimney Rock would be my recommendation-always one of my favorites:

I was like, "Richwood State Park... how come I've never heard of that one?"

I've been checking out all the links, which have been a great help. I'll probably end up at Allaire this weekend and hopefully try some farther away places in the weeks to come. Ringwood state park sounds like it could be an adventure.

-Will I look like an idiot riding around with a Camelbak or do most people have one?

From what I've seen (I usually ride at Lewis Morris Park in Morristown) it's about 50/50. Personally, I use one I got for skiing. It's insulated, which also helps keep it cool in the summer. A few ice cubes thrown in help as well. I also keep in there a allen key set, screwdriver, some dried fruit for a little energy burst while on the trail and my car keys.

I'll use the Camelbak, thanks.
