Just my 10 pennys worth .....
Bikes are like ski's, it's really horses for courses and the debate of hard-tail v full suspension is a long running argument (even longer than PMTS v PSIA
If you are looking for a bike to use on short rides (1-2 hours) that is light, ultra-responsive and extremely durable then the Litespeed Ti Hard tail (HT) bikes will probably be great for you. A HT can beat you up although I hear Ti frames are more forgiving than steel or Ali'. HT bikes are like race ski's - very good for a specific purpose.
If you are looking for a bike to ride on longer rides with more comfort then a full suspension (FS) would probably be better. In general FS weighs more and do not quiet match hardtails on uphill climbs but FS will beat the hardtails downhill by a mile. FS bikes are also more expensive and good ones are priced over 1000 USD whereas good HT's start at around half this price. In your advanced age I suspect a FS would be better for you.
FS bikes I like at the moment are :-
Klein Adept Race or Pro
Santa Cruz Superlight
Ellsworth Truth or Isis
Perhaps you should start a separate thread in the off-season sports and ask for other peoples views.
