Another new member who discovered the forum last season and who has joined to find solace with other diseased souls who try on ski boots in August... I live just over the Golden Gate bridge in Marin County but am a longtime San Franciscan and a skier since age 6... got hooked in my teens with my Hanson boots and Hexcel skis and went through most of the Olin Marks and then the early The Ski's... did a little teaching in the Sierras and at Mt Batchelor before life interrupted my skiing in the 90s... I rediscovered skiing about six years ago and have been trying to up my ski days to their current level of about 20-30 per season... favorite mountains are Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows in the Sierras and Alta and Snowbird in Utah... my 85 year old father is still skiing and was an instructor at Park City until a few years ago... have arrive at age 45 with a realization that life needs to be arranged around skiing, not the other way around... am looking forward to the first snowflakes in the Sierras and Utah and hoping to try Vail and Whistler for the first times this season... have been thinking about some equipment upgrades (the Stockli Rotors look pretty good) but am still pretty happy with my heavy Volants for now... anyway I hope to be able to contribute to the board in the coming season and am looking forward to reading about everyones' trials and tribulations...

Welcome, AndrewJ! Be sure to check out the Meet On The Hill forum, and consider hooking up with other EpicSki Bears at the ESA and/or Gathering in Tahoe, and the Let's Go Colorado mini-gatherings in January or April for your Vail visit.

Lots to see here. Jump right in! Welcome...

(PS You and I are the same age and share a similar insanity...)

Yep I had both of Bobbie Burns creations... the first one where you got two blue skis, two yellow skis or one of each... and the second version which was white... I broke those out after my ten year hiatus and got thrown back on some ice and crud, planted my pole hard behind myself and dislocated my shoulder... so those went into the history vault...

I do notice that Burns is at it again though... I saw some of his recent creations at Deer Valley last year and the owner was raving about them... you get a piece of sagebrush imbedded in each skis base... not sure what that does but it must be nice sagebrush... I think the skis are around 1500.00

You mean these...

I talked to Bobbie last year...the current ones are close to $2,000.00 now, but his website hasn't been updated since 05. He also has some new nano-technology in the works.

Andrew, Welcome to EpicSki. I think you found your new home and your new best friend.

Phil, do you always smile when you find "a find"?

Wow what a blast from the past!

I did email and exchanged some thoughts with Mr Burns last season as well and while his new skis look interesting that price of admission buys a lot of lift tickets!

I take it these are yours? How do you like the new ones?

Bobbie is a wacko, I talked to him a few times through the winter last year about the new ones. I found them on Craigslist, but that is another story. I did ski them for one day, they were very nice, but in a 162.5, they were too small for me. I did find them a home with another Mod who was looking for a bump ski and they will suit her better.

That would be me!
I can only hope that I can live up to the expectations of "the ski" after having such an esteemed home, before mine.

I'll be sure to let you know how I like them when I get the chance to hit the slopes.
