So what skill blending do you use to slay the crud. Smear? Slice?

Slice and dice. A smear in crud likely works about as well as in a foot or more of powder=NOT.

Crud is the stage between fresh snow and moguls.  Period.

This is crud:

Those pictures are a perfect powder day 10 minutes after the mountain opens on the EC. I would never call that crud. Add moisture, lots of it, frozen or not, and then it's crud.

I just was reading another thread where someone used the term "untracked crud". :dunno  I suppose if crud is tracked up stuff, then "untracked crud" is just powder? Guess that just points to the lack of clarity or agreement on what the term means.

No that's powder....with an arguable exception on the last picture but even that's not crud....that's great snow

But that's my point.  Crud is great snow.  Crud does not equal crap, it just sounds similar.

Hmm...I could see untracked crud being soft crud with just enough dusting of fresh on it that you can make new tracks but not so much that it removes the underlying texture.  I love moguls in that condition.

I think one video--I think it was Bob Barnes' Crudology--included wind crust as crud, and wind crust can be untracked/unskied, right?

OTOH, Bob's approach is that crud is anything that isn't silky and sweet and easy for the average skier, which the OP isn't buying.

I just watched Crudology.  Bob includes conditions that I don't call crud but the technique is similar so I'll concede.  If you watch from 0:30 to 2:30, 90+% of the conditions are what I would call crud.  What I don't see is the skied up groomers that so many Epic posters think of as crud.
