Swimming uses every cotton-pickin' muscle in the body... about. Basketball- constantly on the move.
Kima- Here's something Powderjunkie shared with me: Next time on the hill, find a gentle or average blue run. Go into a turn, and at the start of the turn or maybe half way through, lift the inside ski. First few times I did this I found myself slamming the inside ski back down in a hurry. I was leaning to the inside of the arc of my turn too much. When done correctly the inside ski will stay off the snow. This also forces you to find the right balance fore and aft. You will actually feel your outside ski grab hold and guide you right around the turn. It's an amazing feeling! Try it with left and right turns. If I remember correctly i did only right turns, so I've got some "sheddin'" to do yet. If anyone plays music around here (i.e. instrument) you probably know what sheddin' means. If not, ask. I'm dying to tell!
It's an old jazz term. Someone please ask... I feel mouthy today!
Lisamarie- You might remember awhile ago I was complaining about being out of breath and out of shape. Still working on the out of shape thing, and your posts are really helping me muchly. But here's somehting rather important that perhaps many people don't know they have- sleep apnea.
I just did a sleep study at one of the hospitals here in Portland, OR. They found that in 4 hours I stopped breathing 30 times! I also have Hypopnea- short breaths. No wonder I've been so dang tired all the time! Come to find out, this can shorten one's life, promote high blood pressure, heart attack, to name a few.
To check this out, have your sig. other, mate, wife, hubs, etc. have you go to sleep while you stay up. Sit there and watch the sleeper avidly. Does he/she stop breathig or hold the breath and let it go? Do they snore? Snoring could be a possible indication. I saw logs (snore) so much I'm afraid some tree huggers will drop by and stag a sit-in around my house, thinking I work for Georgia Pacific or Warehouser!
If you observe any of the above symptoms arrange a sleep study with your doctor!
They gave me a CPAP machine to use temporarily unil I can get my nose fixed. (deviated septum), another cause! I asked what causes sleep apnea. Answer: Most people who have it are born with it and don't know it!
I've been using this machine 4 days now and i feel 1,000% better already! Now all that needs to be done (I hope) is to tie me down and use a half inch drill bit on my nose! Better give me some good old Black Jack Daniels first!
