now if we could only get some of those cafes (and the accompanying "scenery") at the bottom of some of these gnarly runs more of us guys might be Level 11's...

not to revive a mostly dead thread that ended up being kind of moot, but...
i recently filled out a form for a free subscription to Freeskier Magazine and they asked for your ski level.
They broke it down as thus:
Notice how they made Advanced, Expert, and Pro mutually exclusive?
I thought that was interesting since in some recent threads the terms "advanced" "expert" and "pro" were tossed around interchangeably.
For a very good measuring stick, albeit one that doesn't use 1-9 ratings, take a look at the web site of the Ski Club of Great Britain. They use it for determining the suitability of their many trips for a wide variety of skiers. It can be humbling, but useful nevertheless.
