Long weekend visiting our son who lives in Berkeley. Alternating between breweries and wineries. It's a tough job but someone has to support the economy.

When we were there, there wasn't much in the way of breweries. That was before Lagunitas and Russian River Brewing (did you get to Russian River?).

Not yet. The brewery explosion in wine country is amazing. I guess like calls to like, it's all alcohol tourism.

There was a Golden Age of Wine in California; now it's the Golden Age of Beer (anywhere).

What? You mean east coast beer is competitive with west coast beer?😉

Beer, yes. Wine? A joke.

Spent an hour and a few at Campana Ranch Winery with the winemaker. Wow. Friendly guy, great wine, and 3 great winery dogs (all rescues). Bought 3 bottles. I highly recommend it if you are in the area.

Had lunch at Healdsburg Bar and Grill, also very good. We are at Beer Republic now, drinking Hop Shovel. Very good, so much better than the Racer series.

Eating Red Hawk cheese from Cowgirl Creamery -- for the 2nd time in 2 days. I think this is my favorite cheese ever.

Still over rated

I've started a new project (admittedly largely as an excuse to drink beer) overviewing and reviewing the up and coming craft beer scene here in Costa Rica. I wrote an overview and the first brewery review today; there's some interesting stuff there worth reading.

On a related note I just finished off the last of my inMORAl from Tierra y Libertad Brewery (a Belgian Style Stout infused with Blackberries).

I wouldn't say overrated.  I would say that latest batch wasn't as good as in some prior years.

Well...

A very small operation right up the road from me in mushroom farming country in Avondale, PA.

Kennett Square and Avondale are together a major east coast mushroom producing area. Like in Chianti with grapes and olives, you can taste the earthiness of the mushrooms in Va La wines. Very distinctive, very good, and very pricey. Anthony Vietri favors a lot of Italian varietals, but produces mostly blends.

The Kennett Square Mushroom Festival is right around the corner.

Well, I'm willing to be persuaded . . .

I have liked this beer for a couple of years. This current batch is the best I have had in a long time. So well balanced @ 11.8%.

Hear, hear.  Our local congressman (Perlmutter) introduced me Boulevard's Rye on Rye at a local pub in Wash DC.  Was almost enough to persuade me to cross the aisle and vote for him.

I picked that up recently and can't wait to try it.

Found my Christmas present. Hurry December.

As a kid I was known to on occasions open more than one on a day. Will history repeat itself?

Last night I had Third Voyage, Double IPA, in my Mountain Collective metal pint glass. It was the 2nd to last of a Sam Adams IPA variety pack I bought at Costco.

All I have left is one Grumpy Monk a 7.3 Belgium IPA that is not my favorite. I've been saving it for my son, but the few times he has been here, he was not drinking.

I'm halfway through the six-pack of Accumulation, New Belgium's Seasonal White IPA that has nice artwork on carton.

The label on back of the bottle (shown at left) includes link to POW- ProtectOurWinters, org
