Canada Dry Raspberry Sparkling Seltzer Water....it's gross by itself and gross with tequila....anybody know what you're supposed to mix this with???

Something red, sweet-ish and alcoholic in itself is where I'd start the hunt.

Dubonnet?

Big Tattoo Red?

Ruby Port?

Campari - probably not.

Creme de cassis - definitely not, waste of cassis.

Vodka maybe....kind of like a vodka tonic but different.

I decided on a little bit of Bulleit Rye for a night cap.  For a cheap-ish whiskey its hard to beat.

Van Winkle 12yo bourbon straight up for cocktail hour and Joel Gott 2009 Zinfandel with my (perfectly) grilled strip steak.  Noice.

Happy Father's Day everyone!

Got to try a few free samples of single malts traveling around Scotland Today:

Glen Fyne (super small still only sold at one store in the world)
Smokehead (new distillery. Relatively unknown due to it being new. Amazing scotch IMHO. If they sold it in anything smaller than 70cL I would've bought a bottle)
Tomatin 12 year
Blair Athol
Some smooth one with Islay in the name. Can't remember the exact name but it wasn't memorable either.

Got back to the hotel and now I'm at the pub downstairs watching the Spain v Croatia match on a ten foot screen outside with a few hundred other people. Tried a Talisker and Oban here. I prefer the Talisker.

Bought a 20 cL bottle of Lagavulin 16 yr to try Wed when we meet up with some old family friends. Can't wait to try that.

A day late, but Fathers Day I was at the Sierra Nevada Taproom in Chico, CA

We had a Blindfold Ale which was delicious.  Classic Sierra Nevada hopping on a dark ale with good complexity, but don't go looking for it.  It's only available at the Taproom and in limited distribution kegs.

I know that brand, that's some super good tea. One of my wife's staff's family is from that province and she brings us that and some serious green "crack" tea Enjoy!

My youngest daughter got a summer job at the local Starbucks.  I'm not much of a coffee drinker and have never patronized Starbucks, but she got me a complimentary mocha frappuccino.  It was good and I think I could get into free decaf coffee flavored milkshakes all summer.  She's also bringing home a lot of leftover pastries/goodies each night.  The battle of the bulge could be tough this summer. redface.gif

At "The Scotch Whisky Experience" in Edinburgh right now got to sample a shore of each of the following for my £22 tour:

Tobermory 10 year
Auchentoshan Classic
Royal Lochnagat 12 yr
Caol Ila 12 yo
Aberlour 10 yo

Since I had a discount I also sampled one I'd been wanting to try the Laphroaig Quarter Cask.

After living with a quarter barrel of Yuengling on tap for the last 5 months I decided my taste was more important than guests so I have restocked the kegerator with two beers from Rivertown Brewing Company in Cincinnati.  I picked up their Roebling Porter about a month ago and today I picked up a 1/6th barrel of Hop Bomber Pale Ale to keep it company.  Normally I like to wait for it to settle a bit after transporting but I was getting thirsty and decided 2 hours was enough.  I find to be similar to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and that is not a bad thing.  The name sort of implies that it incredibly hoppy and bitter but I am guessing it comes in in the 50-60 IBU range and at 5.5% ABV it ends up being a very drinkable beer.  Their Hop Baron double IPA comes in at 103 IBU and is very good as well with a surprising drink-ability to it.

Well done the lad! I'm content with some cold Black Oak Pale Ale - it hit 90F (33C) in Toronto today but with humidity it felt like 40C (104F).

now that the heat is here, its time to break out the Sav. Blancs. Crisp, acidic, flinty citrusy and green. New zealand marlborough region and the Chilean's are among my favorites. give a Oyster bay, marlborough for about $9 a try or a Tabali Chilean sav. a try this weekend.

Just noticed that my "pop" (for northerners)/"soda"(for easterners)/Coke came in a USA Olympic Team commemorative can.  Remember all the backlash about their winter cans that looked too much like diet coke?

Nah, I'm still camped out on the Loire.

Desperados. Beer with tequila mixed in. A bit fruity and very good. Waiting to crack open a Balwinnie Double Wood 12 year.

I opened my last can of Great Crescent Bourbon's Barrel Stout brewed in Aurora Indiana which is close to the local ski hill.  It pours pitch back with a dark brown head.  There is a pronounced coffee flavor with a more subtle hint of bourbon.  I think it might be time for a road trip to pick up some more.

Seltzer with cucumber and lime slices. Tasty and cool ... It's still 80-something degrees outside, at 10 pm. And only June!

Epic Brewing (yeah, the name's been played already) "Fermintation Without Representation" Pumpkin Porter.  http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/epic--dc-brau-fermentation-without-representation/158067/

Yeah, its a bit heavy for 100 degree days but this is an amzing pumpkin spiced, chocolate cofee porter that is pretty damn great. Let is warm up to about 50* or so.

That sounds nice.  I think I'll have that as a refreshing chaser for my Pineapple Mango Smoothie I made for lunch.

OK, rule here that must be obeyed.  No half pints for men!

At the local watering hole they're called LBGB's.

I am thinking of throwing a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the porter I have on tap. It worked well with Wasatch's stout and it might work well for that one too.
