sounds like you got a bad bottle of the witte. The 3 is very good; nice slight touch of cherries. Now go find a "Curieux" and prepare to be floored. (in a lot of ways.. its 11%)

I am planning to head to my regular beer store today to pick up another bottle, which by the way named to the www.ratebeer.com top 100 retailers. The Allagash Curiex sounds amazing. I guess I will have to mail order some.

have you tried any of those Lost Abbeys' I posted up?  If not, give them a try.

No that is another brewery with no distribution here but with any luck I can a place carries both Lost Abbey and Allagash brews that will ship them here.

how about Boulevard-  Smoke stack series: one that is outstanding is the "Tank Seven".  A saison that is a great beer any time but especially nice in the wamer weather. its bottle conditioned so make sure you carefully get the yeasty crap off the bottom; it adds a lot of character and taste. I turn the bottle over and gently swirl until I see the yeasty stuff fall down and mix in; then carefully and slowly turn the bottle back over, then slowly open- try this at your peril. I have had a couple erupt....  (don't tell ms. Finn but the kitchen was covered in beer)

Another one you can't get here.  frown.gif

great lakes use to bottle a saison called Grassroots Ale that was great for summer.  I guess it wasn't popular enough because they only offered it in bottles for one year.

Wow, Boulevard makes some very interesting sounding beers.

A gift from my future ex-son-in-law, Clase Azul reposado tequila.  Very impressive:

Tequilas have the best bottles.

Seg, I've been told to never cook with a wine you wouldn't drink so good on ya for drinking along with the mussels.

One of the best sipping tequilas around.  Growing in popularity at an amazing pace.  You used to only be able to find this stuff in Mexico and SoCal.

lol ... it wasn't a bad wine (Nobilo Sauv Blanc), it's just that I can't often drink more than one glass of white without it starting to taste blech. The first glass is fine, then ....

Just gave my dad his anniversary present of an 18 year old bottle of Laphroaig. I was still up in the air whether to get the Lagavulin 16 yo or the Laphroaig 18 yo, but the Lagavulin was out of stock so made it an easy decision.

I wasn't in the mood for beer tonight and figured bourbon would go better with the steak I cooked for dinner. Basil Hayden it was. It's growing on me but I think I need pick up some Knob Creek.

I'm not much of a scotch drinker, but I can relate. Nice gift!  I'm sure he will enjoy it, and hopefully you'll enjoy the snort he shares with you.

Since you're too young in most U.S. jurisdictions to buy booze....how'd you do it?

I took mom with me to the liquor store down the road. We gave him a little 50 mL bottle of some scotch and told him that was his present. Had him thoroughly convinced that I convinced the guy at the liquor store that it was only small and a present for my dad before giving him the real gift. (Which considering my dads excessive use of sarcasm it was surprising to fool him)roflmao.gif

Obviously I'm too young to consume, but if in theory he were to let me take a sip I'd guess I would say it had a wonderful taste that felt like peat smoke and ocean mist evaporating off your tongue as soon it enters your mouth with a very smooth and slightly warm finish.  wink.gif

I'm pretty sure if someone juiced some peat moss it would be his favorite scotch in the world. I'll keep that in mind, but I know he is a big fan of Laphroaig so that was why I was going to go with that

If he likes peat I'd give The Macallan a try. My Christmas present from the wife used to be a bottle of the 25 year before it broke north of $600. The 18 and 12 are nice as well.

Meanwhile I'm in Vancouver B.C. on business. I'd always heard Canadian beer is good, but that's what I've found this trip - what's been available in the bars I've frequented is stronger but tastes like high alcohol content Budweiser. I'm a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale / Torpedo IPA fan, so if anyone can offer up a suggestion I'm all ears. I had a local IPA and the body was decent but severely under-hopped.

I stopped by a liquor store and bought a bomber of Elysian IPA and was shocked to see the price - eight bucks Canadian. A guy could go broke that way.

that's about what you will pay for a good quality beer.  Choose wisely......

to each their own but I just don't care for high IBU beers.

That is fascinating. My county is in the 80-100% soda category. Its the one thats westernmost directly beneath the three lighter colored ones and next to the purple county. (Not surprised there's no data for Sullivan county, only about 6000 residents in the entire county).

It IS fascinating, almost all of Montana tends to say pop, but though I live in  Missoula County where 90-100% correctly call it pop, adjacent to us, in Granite County 90-100% say soda, as if they were from the New England, or California, or some other realm of confused people. duck.gif

I'm with you.  Besides if it ain't Coke its crap!  biggrin.gif

the folks from "coke" will vehimently dissagree with you! biggrin.gif

this is similar to soda water, seltzer and club soda.

I'm a "soda" believer.  But I get "pop."  However, calling everything "coke" is just illogical.  So if you get a 7-up that's called a coke?

You just have to wrap your mind around this conversation, and it will seem completely normal:

"I'll have a coke"

watress: "What kind of coke do you want?"

"I'll have a Sprite."

I prefer the logical version.

I'll have a coke.

Okay.

Waitress serves coke.

or...

I'll have a Sprite.

Okay.

Waitress serves sprite.
