On seveal of the saturdays I got to go skiing, the hill was covered in a couple of inches of freezing rain. Get the SX11s.

I'd suggest something like the Head iM88 - it's great when you get powder, but it rocks even on the hardpack (it basically skis like a GS ski, just a little slower edge to edge). It's really good fit for what you're looking for I think. It's one weakness is bumps (doable, but gotta work for it). The iM82 (same construction, different dimensions) skis similarly, but is better in the bumps.

You may also want to check out the AC4, which I dont' know much about, but I hear it's similar to the 88 - good for goin fast on hardpack and great in powder, but I'm not sure if it's as versatile for stuff like trees etc.

hmmm.

i skied the iM88 and found it to be a tanker. it was a bear to manouver and was a bit straight for my taste (kind of reminded me of the Explosiv). i didn't cotton to either on hardpack/groomers.

that's why i ended up with the Mantra...much more nimble. but probably too nimble for the icy East.

Last year in the east was not good. Go to Meatheadfilms.com and check out the trailer for SnowGods, the footage of tree skiing is all from last years "terrible no snow winter". It did snow and it was deep (some of the time).

The Head iM88 is my 'everyday' ski, I love it for everything (including bumps) here. The Karma is also a good (maybe great) choice for eastern skiing.
