Agreed!

I've been a subscriber to RealSkiers for a couple of years. Mainly for the reviews. I like Keelty's apparent methodology, but I'm bothered by what appear to be systematic biases in his own text (loves Heads, Elans, and Stocklis, clearly think Volkls are overrated) that, curiously, also turn up the the numerical scores supposedly compiled from hundreds of instructors, shops guys etc. His summaries beside each ski are also oddly inconsistent; "raves" for one brand (think Elan here) can still be attached to 3's and 4's, while for another, 4's and 5's get a low key summary. And both his scores and his texts seem strangely negative about fat and twin-tip skis that generally are highly respected. So either he's unconsciously fudging the results, or his sampling is so non-random that it's biasing his numbers.

In either case, I may not renew...

The format for ski reviews is the best. Ski reviws are objective, informative and free of of commercial input. Peter is doing a great job and RealSkiers is a great source of information.

I was very unhappy with the the content when I signed up last year. I was expecting 'in-depth' reviews as the description claimed before you sign up. What I saw was the usual sparse comments and some numbers and symbols. I was expecting serious write-ups and such. I also noticed conflicting information such as the RX line for 04 through last year getting different marks when in fact they were the same skis with different graphics. One year it says good at bumps, the next year 'stay out of the bumps' ect. This leads me to question the effort that went into compiling the reviews, not the reviewers or reviews that took place.

I'm not renewing this year after 5 years as a member. I get much more useful, and although it may be biased, it's from the heart, information on Epic. It doesn't take much time to learn who you can trust to be totally unbiased and who trumpets what they ski as the best thing ever on this forum. Of course I never do that. It just so happens that the Fischer WC RC4 RC is the best carving ski out there .

I used to buy most of my skis from eBay and agree that RealSkiers may be the best resource for last year's (or the year before that...or the year before that.....) skis. But the reviews on Ski Press seem to be pretty decent for the current year and you can look at their archives for some older skis (not as extensive as Keelty's, but free).

I'll probably regret it at some point this year - most likely when I see some ski that looks like a killer deal on eBay - but I've got 2 in college : and I'm scrimping to save for lift tix in VT this winter.

Maybe you should send that $20 over this way. Plus an extra $10 penalty for copyright violations. :

So it's safe to say you liked the skis? From your review and that of a few magazines i've read, it seems like I am making a good choice.

GB is right on. Realskiers is a little bit like a collage education. Its a great place to start the process of being a knowledgeable gear buyer. Yes, over time, the need for the kind of scholarly knowledge seen at Realskiers may diminish and input from other sources becomes more relevant. And yes, its impossible to produce a review without some the inherent problems of bias, but Peter pulls it off better than anyone.

Every expert (regardless of field) still has the need for reliable data and a convenient place to keep it. I'm extremely grateful to Peter for all his hard work over the last 8 years. I can't imagine buying gear without Realskiers.

For people whose knowledge of ski gear is more casual, Realskiers is even more beneficial.

Cheers,

Michael

Yeah, OK. AFAIK though, the GC Race is last year's CG except with a new wood core.

That wood core probably makes a pretty big effect.

Ghost, yes it does - it makes it a good ski, IMHO

It was already a great ski. So it'll still be the same great ski only now it will just last longer. I bought the 05-06 GC to be my race ski because it performed so well as it was. I do wish I had the wood core version, but I got a great deal on the GC, so I'm gonna be happy with it.

Well gents, I ended up picking up the Equipe GC Race + 914 bindings in a 170cm length. Thanks to the both of your for your input and glowing reviews of the ski.

Some of the ski mags I read have been raving about this ski as well.
