The New York metro feeder hills do massive and successful marketing and advertising in the ethnic press to attract a diverse population.
One hill had lots of "imported" instructors for a variety of reasons and even hired a minority woman who could barely ski past PSIA level three, she was wedge all the way, to cater to the groups.
The motive is money, not quality of instruction ...... it's a done to the tune of .... Rawhide .... "herd em' in, head em' up, move em' out .... Rawhiddddddddddde! .... rollin, rollin, rollin, those those slopes are swollen"
The problem with this is that it does not creat skiers. It is sold as a winter weekend out of the city. The goal is not success for the long term of making skiers out of them, the goal is to get a new bus in the each week.
I got my ass chawed out big time when I adapted to teaching non-english speaking customers. I took off my skis and just applied pressure and movement to their feet after a few demos. It worked real well too! Till I got told to get my skis on by upper management.
The message was ..... screw what works .... move em' out!
Ya' gotta wonder how many come back?
