I noticed an article on the saminfo site about Vail and its relationship to Alpino, which seems to be an organization dedicated to getting more skiing participation among hispanic inner city youth. While I am all in favor of programs which bring inner city youth to the slopes, and would especially like to thank Harold Plummer for his efforts in getting the DC public schools to participate in ski programs, it does strike me that a bigger opportunity for profit and industry expansion lies in getting more affluent but underrepresented groups to ski. In particular, I am thinking about Chinese, Indians, and southwest asians. For example, do any ski areas do anything special for Chinese (lunar) New Year? What success have your areas had in attracting Indians, or southwest asians? What have been keys to that success? If more people ski, there will be more skis and more ski areas.
