The Yankees begin their drive for their 27th World Series title..first pitch will be tonight @ 8:19pm.
LET'S GO YANKEES!!

Don't worry Red Sox fans-your first pitch will April 2nd 2007-(btw, how does 3rd place feel???)
The Yankees played an incredible second half with some truely clutch performances by replacement players. The young guys stepped up for you. Your team is relatively healthy now going into the playoffs, the Yanks look to be the team to beat.

That being said...You Haven't Won Anything Yet (except the division, not your goal). I wouldn't be talking trash yet Shen there are 7 other teams that aren't going to lie down and let you have the series. Watch out for Detroit and the Twins (they're better than you).

We still have the 'Red Sox West' with LA.
Id love to see D Lowe come through and stick it in the Yanks again. Or anyone else for that matter. Talk about your typical obnoxious Yankee fan though, what is that Shen- 26 font?

Here's another

instant Tigers/Twins/Dodgers etc fan!

Do you realize how insane the knee-jerk yankees hating is?? Can you honestly admit you would rather see the tigers in the world series...or the padres or cards win it all...come on.

That said, the twins and the A's are quite likeable and if the yanks weren't in it I'd be rooting for them....but that's rooting FOR A TEAM...not rooting FOR A TEAM TO LOSE to whomever; which is just retarded.

and fwiw - in my experience the yankees haters pretty much feel they have the RIGHT to be 100x more obnoxious than yanks fans (except for Shen of course ).

That said, it's fun to go to a bar in any city in the country with the yanks on tv and have the atmosphere be crazy...even here in Reno watching the yanks/angels last year it was almost as much fun as watching the yanks/sox in Boston...though I'm always so outnumbered I feel like Alan Colmes :

yep, I am retarded.

tonight I am the biggest possible Tigers fan.....:

I was a Cards fan in 64...that worked out pretty good for me

nope, sorry no "knee jerk" here...I'd rather see anyone else win the world series.....snakes, fish whatever...it is all good

yankees?

Now that was unneccesary wasn't it? But it'll make it easier to gloat when the Yankees are eliminated again.

I hate the Yankees, but I am totally jealous of Yankee fans. As a recovering (ex) Oriole fan it really sux to see an organization that is run so well even if Big Stein is a prima donna. Angelos (Oriole's owner) is a total self absorbed clown. Even Big Stein wouldn't have fired Davey Johnson after a playoff season. And he drained all the fun from even watching the O's on TV when he fired Jon Miller. John Lowenstein ("Brother Low") also mysteriously disappeared from TV broadcasting. WHAT KIND OF AN IDIOT WOULD FIRE JON MILLER !?!?!?! (answer: the same one who would preside over a 9-season losing streak)

Sorry to hijack & rant.

I hope you Yankee fans realize what you have. [lucky bastards]

Jeter is Da Man !

5/5 a real throwback to old fashioned hardworking ballplayer ethic "just care about winning coach not the MVP ' comment

I'm glad that they won last nite - not bcuz i'm a fan . Frankly i find baseball terminally boring but "The Queen of the Hop" is a diehard yanks fan and life is full of wonderment when all goes well .

Hey i MAY LOOK dumb but I know what's up
This is the same Jeter that was getting booed at the beginning of last year right?
He is truly one of the greats of the generation...I despise almost any other Yankees though, especially steroid freaks and purple lipped babies.

Good luck to the Dodgers, always my 2nd favorite team, especially since the Pads look hopeless (except for the man, the myth, the legend...Dave Roberts)

Cano, Wang, Mussina, Posada, Matsui, Jeter, Rivera, BERNIE!!!! Yeah, those guys are all jerks : Even Giambi is known as about the coolest guy in the game. I understand hating him for the steroid thing but you have to admit that it is semi-admirable that he is the ONLY one (and we know there is a lot) to admit and apologize.

...and to my knowledge Jeter wasn't boo'd unless it was against the sox and there was 20,000 sox fans at the stadium (which happens)...where are you getting that from?? They even cheer for A-Rod 99% of the time even though he is the most un-clutch performer ever....the things people say about the yankees players and fans makes me laugh it's so freaking INCORRECT!!

If you are going to hate the yankees, at least be honest that it isn't the players or the fans...it's purely jealousy over the payroll...which is perfectly understandable...but to take it to the rediculous levels so many do is just moronic (no offense).

So if the Yanks were out of the playoffs and Boston was in, you'd root for the Sox? I don't consider my reaction knee-jerk - I pretty consistently root for the Bombers to lose. That said, I do have a lot of respect for wht they were able to do this year after the injuries to Matsui and Sheffield - those 2 guys and Jeter always scare you when they come up in a big situation. Some of that success can be attributed to the size of the payroll (it's easy to have depth when your payroll is 2/3 larger than your next biggest competitor). Jeter is one of the greats for sure, but Ortiz still gets my vote for MVP this year.

As for why to hate the Yankees (other than being a fan of another Eastern division team), I think you've got it wrong - some of it is the "over the top" fans. I don't think there's much jealousy of the payroll - just a desire to see the underdog win.
Its just like those new commercials with Lasorda- "Its that time of year when you root for whoever's playing the Yankees."

Great advertising campaign by MLB on that one. :

not Yankees-related

But that Dodgers screw-up at the plate yesterday was as funny as it gets.

It's pretty weird to see a lineup with Cano as the number 9 hitter. That's sort of like using Bode are a forerunner.
I really want my tigers to win, but somehow I don't think they'll pull it out.

HOLD ON!! You're giving up on your team after one game :

A little secret: when the yankees win game 1 of a playoff series they like to lose the series....and their bullpen :
Joel Zumaya throws absolute gas. 103? I know the stadium guns are inflated...so say a legit 100? I hope this series goes 5, one way or another, so we can see Verlander make A ROD look silly again. He hit 101 too. BTW hockey season has started in case anyone didnt notice

Go Tigers!

I'm pulling for the Tigers. Down with the "Evil Empire!"
Tigers Win. All tied at 1:1
That's why the play the games.

1-9 Allstars. Still capable of losing. And the Tigers have the late inning relievers to hold off the usually inevitable Yankee late inning come back.

Should be interesting.

Brock-to know me is to love me
26 font-nicely played-hopefully next year the font will be 27!

Tigers earned one yesterday-their pitching staff had a great day...and they were just throwing nasty---the stadium gun was hitting 102(yes-it is a few mph's high) -more than once...plus following that with some nasty curves and 77mph changes--IMHO-the Tigers threw their ACE yesterday-and their pullpen threw a fair amount of pitches-still more baseball to go!!

Absolutely true.

And because you're still mourning this season, I'm not going to re-post the Yankees' starting lineup -- composed of untested 22 year-olds, Columbus scrubs, and other castoffs -- that gained 11 games on the Sox this summer.
Sox sucked the second half of the season, no question.

Yankees did an awesome job with the injuries they had, no question.

All props to them. Still want them to lose though. Just the way it is.
Not to get all mushy, but it does suck not having the Sox in the playoffs. Kinda like we're playing Team X, Y, or Z. Even a Yankees vs. Mets series isn't quite the same.

Are there any other decent rivalries left in the MLB? Cubs vs. White Sox?

I'll give ya giant AMEN to that, brotha! But I'm still an O's fan, even if the front office is a bunch of assClowns. I don;t go out of my way to watch them though, and I haven't gotten behind the Nats yet (although I hope to)
"WE"? was that you at third base yesterday? Im kidding I do the same thing. Giants Dodgers? Cards Cubs. White Sox Cubs isnt really a rivalry for the teams as it is people in the city (which may be the whole point anyway)- they hadnt even played each other before interleague play, and havent been contenders in the same years either. There nothing else in baseball though. Duke UNC is the only thing I can see thats close in all of sports. 2003 and 2004 were my senior year and first year out of college, and amazing baseball years. I had nothing else to do but get drunk and watch baseball.
