04/05 M:ex & 05/06 M:ex...

is there any difference between the 04/05 orange/brown M:EX's and the 05/0-06 red/cream M:EX's other than the different color schemes on the topsheet?

like a fool i totally slept on SierraJim's pre-season sale and by the time I remembered it (last night 11:30) all of his 04/05 M:EX's in 175 were gone.

i've been digging around the net trying to find other outlets that might still have a stash of the 04/05's, but to no avail. have found some 05/06's, though and from what i've been able to gather, it's more or less the same ski, just different graphics.

is there truth to my assumptions?

Matt, you are THE MAN.

I spent an hour on line last night/early this morning and the cheapest I found was $429 for flat 05/06 model.

$500 for the 04/05 w/bindings is pretty sweet (and makes me wonder why it didn't turn up on any Google/Bizrate/MSN shopping searches).

Thanks for the lead.

I found 185cm with bindings for $399 at: http://cgi.ebay.com/Atomic-Metron-Ex...QQcmdZViewItem

Cheers,

thanks for the leads!

the main thrust of my thread, however, was to find out whether or not there was a huge difference between the 04/05 and 05/06 models other than a facelift in terms of topsheet color scheme.

There was a flex difference. I feel like think that the '04-'05 was maybe 10% stiffer (mostly in the forebody)

Sorry that you missed, but those "blowout" items were just the last few of a model/size or sometimes just the last pair of something. The remains will stay up at those prices, but obviously some key items are now gone.

Thanks Jim.

No problem, you snooze, you loose as they say.

I think I found a pair w/bindings for 499, which is about what it would have run me had I bought the flats from you and then bought separate bindings, so I think all is good in the world.

Do keep in mind however that the '05-'06 came with lighter Neox bindings if in fact there are bindings on the ski. It really didn't make much difference in the way they skied but some people thought the skis were lighter to carry to and from the parking lot.

Yeah, I'm aware of their weight.

I already have a pair of Mantras moutned with Marker Titaniums, so I'm used to lugging heavy gear across the parking lot.

you can get the 04/05 ski and still put on the 05/06 binding. I did that with all three of my pairs.

I didn't find the weight to be a big deal. I schlepped mine through town at CB everyday for 8 days last year without a problem and I was out of shape. Some people must be either really lazy or really weak :-)

Phil: Yeah, I figured as much. Haven't been able to find the 04/05 flat, though.

I know SierraJim still has some 185's, but I skied those last year and they felt long.

I've found some 05/06's flat, but they're as much as the 04/05's with bindings. And forgive me for being vain, but if I plunk down, I kinda like the 04/05 burnt orange color scheme.

Figure the 175's will round out my quiver somewhat (i'll have a couple of 175's, a couple of 177's, a couple of 180's and a 198).

FWIW. I skied my M11's with both bindings..I didn't notice a difference. I wouldn't loose sleep over it.

don't worry, i won't lose any sleep...

btw, thanks for turning me on to those Greg Stump flix. I watched Blizzard of Ahhhhs on Sunday. Awesome. Felt like it had much more heart and soul than some of the more recent (as in 2000ish) films I've seen.
