"knock-out" SL and a "reverse 30" start in SG...

what's it mean?

from my SRM e-news...

"The addition of a 'knock-out' slalom highlights changes to the FIS alpine WC calendar for next season, along with a reverse 30 start in the SG, using the WC start list, and the DH, using training run results. The changes are being made to create more excitement on the World Cup, according to FIS president..." blah blah blah.

Also, though I'm not detailing it here, the media advisor to the FIS is advising the organization that it must adapt in order to keep up with the glut of sports programming and the recent economic downturn, and intimates that - i'll paraphrase; it's not in front of me - the elements that make WC ski racing so "pure" (competition-driven) might be somewhat sacrificed in the name of increased marketing and FIS visibility.

Anyway, if you're curious, more at SkiRacingMagazine.

Ryan,

I have no idea what a "knock-out" SL is (full contact SL, where the defensive linemen try to stop you from finishing?), but a reverse 30 start is where the person in 30th place goes first, and the person in first goes last. Like the 2nd run in SL and GS.
