Opening Day?

Anyone have any new info today?

i signed up for both the Loveland and A-Basin email blasts.

Nothing has been "blasted" my way yet.

(I also signed up for all the Tahoe resort email blasts and ditto, nothing has been sent out).

My guess is that since A-Basin and Loveland are in a "race" to be the first to open, they are not going to tip their hand that they are opening any sooner than 24hrs before they open.

Of whom 1000 will fall rounding the right-hand hairpin turn. Can't wait.

Haha...when I was first learning to ski, I remembering approaching that turn with dread. Didn't want to turn too tight since the inside of the turn always had a sharp drop; didn't want to go too wide and over the rope! : Aah, the memories!

The snow guns at Loveland were doin' their jobs yesterday when I went by around 7:00 p.m. http://www.skiloveland.com/snowmaking/Pics.htm

Can anyone confirm that a-basin opens this weekend? I'll hike if I have to, but I'd prefer the ride.

and now a haiku:
Summer was too long
Dreams of snow ruined by day
Confirm Saturday?

Still no updates on their websites. Looks like they're still making snow today...

Don't even consider it in the early in the season, that little drop is very rocky - the boarders carve what little snow there off pretty fast.

Seeing the guns cranking is nice, but Mother Nature's gonna have to step up in a big way...soon.

OK.......i do know Loveland will not open tomorrow.

Heavenly sent out an email blast last month listing Nov. 17th as the opening date, but they haven't posted anything official on their website.

Apparantly Dodge Ridge opened in October last season, but they haven't posted any dates, either.

Itching am I...may have to make an Oct. trek to Colo...
Last time I looked, Northstar's web site said they'll open November 18. Server(s) must be down now, though, because I can't access their site. (They've been sketchy for a week or so, actually.)

Any news on A-Basin...this is thier chance and its a big one!!

Who really cares who opens first? Its not like they're making lots of money... no one is going to pay full price to ski that ROD.

From A-Basin's website- "THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12 UPDATE- SNOWMAKING IS GOING GREAT AND THE TEMPERATURES ARE STAYING LOW. WE HOPE TO OPEN ANY DAY NOW - AN OPENING DATE HAS NOT BEEN SET AS OF YET, BUT KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED AND WE'LL POST IT HERE AS SOON AS WE KNOW."

and from Loveland's "Snow guns are going, things are looking great! Loveland is very close to opening!"

Looking good for first turns this weekend!

It never fails to amaze me the frothing of the mouth over truely pathetic conditions on ONE over crowded run every October. Yet we then hear nothing from these resorts again, while the skiing conditions improve dramatically at these places week by week as the season progresses.

I am perfectly happy with people not hearing about Loveland the rest of the season.

Yeah, if word gets out there might actually be a wait for the lifts after the other places open. My wife jokes about how we're real "Gems skiers", because we left the Lift 2 reload last year and went to Lift 4 once because there were 5 people in front of us.

I have done the same thing at Loveland. Also by-passed Pioneer to go to Garfield at Monarch for the same reason.

Why the hell did I buy the Super Pass this year??? Oh yeah... 5,400 combined acres and 2293 vertical feet rise in 8 minutes (Super Bee).

I'm beginning to think that both A-Basin and L'Land just took my info to sell to marketing firms...

I signed up on both of their sites the other day for email blast updates and have not been blasted once.

Then again maybe they routed me differently since I gave them a Cali zip code.

Speaking of which, right now 11/18 is the "soft" opening date for Kirkwood (Heavenly listed 11/17 a few weeks ago, but no updates since).

Booga-booga!

And remember, you could always be skiing on astroturf in Scotland instead!
