This is an absolute true story, swear to Gosh!
One of my very best friends was an on the rise financial type with a massively promising career. Harvard, Wharton, Wall Street, Big5 tax firm, all the makings of a guy with all kinds of cash, women, cars and all that.
So, in mid-October he walks into his boss' office and says "Hey boss, I'm going to take off the month of March" to which his boss says, "You can't! We're a tax firm and that's right in the middle of tax season and it's our busiest time of year, blah, blah, blah!".
To which my friend says "OK, well, what would it take for me to take all of March off". You got it, the boss says "You'd have to quit". And that's when he did it..."I quit!". He walked to his office, packed his gear and off he went, for two years. On his way out of the building, he stops and calls me and tells me what he did, to which I reply "Are you F-ing nuts?". He says yes and literally within 2 days he was driving west.
So, here's this guy with the world by the shorties and he's driving x-country to spend the next 2 years working at first Vail, then, Deer Valley (it was like the first or second year of DV making a big push) and then finally Tahoe.
After he got that out of his system, he returned to the world of finance and just retired after making all kinds of cash and taking his company public, and all that.
So, gotta wonder who the "nuts-O" really was.
Oh, his ex-boss, still working at the same place, no hair, 50 pounds heavier than before and still hasn't taken all of March off to go ski!
Smell the roses boys...and girls...it's an easy choice for me...SkI!
