Vacation house near Banff, Canada

I'm not sure if this be the right sub-forum, however, I own a 5BR ~4500ft2 house near BANFF in the Canadian Rockies - just had, ahem, 4" of snow last week - and will be renting on a limited basis starting this year. Would any members recommend where I should post further information and a linky to my website? This forum? Is there a travel/accomodation forum?? Any advice will be appreciated. TIA.

By near Banff, I presume you mean Harvey Heights or Canmore? You may get a few PM's regarding availability after this post, but I think most folks who are renting out are using one of the online services such as www.vrbo.com or others of that ilk.

You might also want to keep the posting guidelines in mind, particularly the anti-spamming paragraph:

"Spamming will not be tolerated. Spamming can be defined as posting excessively with no content, posting with commercial intent, or posting solely to redirect traffic to another site. This also includes pyramid schemes or other opt-in advertising services. Do not use the forums for personal gain or to boost your post count. Spamming will result in an immediate ban from EpicSki without warning."

I think that requesting suggestions regarding the experiences people have had with rental listing services is probably ok, and I'm sure you'll get a response, but then I'm not a moderator......

Rental Services

Your request does not come remotely close to spamming. There are ski shops selling stuff in this forum that get no spam complaints.

I think it is OK to post your rental here periodically, but you will get more traffic from a vacation rental listing service.

I have a beach house in Prince Edward Island that I rent out. I have had OK luck with www.vrbo.com, but Cyberrentals has worked very well for me www.cyberrentals.com

Maybe we can swap a ski week for a beach week one of these years. I may be coming out west to ski this winter. PM me your website as I may be interested in a week rental.

Ski-Dad, this was originally posted in the General Ski Discussion, which does give it the slight appearance of spam. I moved it here to be more appropriately place.
Alexander, the advice about rental specific sites is sure to get you more results, however, you may find the results here that you are looking for.

It's clearly advertising. But I clicked through anyway. No rates listed, so since it's an hour away from where you really want to be, I'd stay at the Post Hotel instead. Or, on a budget, any of the other nice places right in Lake Louise or Banff. I never follow up on ads that won't tell me how much it would cost, since "if you have to ask, you can't afford it".

Oh no!! God forbid a member posts that he has a house for rent! Someone please protect me from this horror! I feel so violated I don't know how I'll ever recover.
Give it a rest, grow a pair or some thick skin.
The house looks beautiful and perhaps someone here has the trip of a lifetime because of the post.
This policeing of the threads needs to stop.

While EpicSki does not welcome commercial listings, EpicSki users are allowed to post the availablility of their own vacation cabin/lodge.

It is the desire of EpicSki to keep these forums community oriented, and there is a realization that community members may benefit from an opportunity to rent from or buy from another Bear.

Sometimes it is difficult to see the difference between a spam related post and a community member post, but we do our best to make a good judgement call on such activity.

For those that asked whether this kind of post is allowed; as I understand it, links by members are only allowed in the Gear Swap forum, and only in the message (no signature links). In the case of Alexander_s, this is a single residence that as far as we know is privately owed by him. Abusive listings by realtors and truely commercial posts would be moderated. Privately owned cabins, homes and condos at ski areas fall into a category of "Gear Swap" that we are still discussing how to handle. We don't want the site to become a real estate listing service, but especially members with a history of contributing content to the site should have a place they can let others know about the availability of their private residence for rent. There is some thought that we are skiers and need places to stay, and we have members who own homes. Why not put the two together (Epicski discounts are encouraged )

Expect to seem more on this as the policy evolves. I grant you this appears somewhat fluid from a policy point of view at this time. I think the number of posts, and input from members will ultimately decide what happens in this issue. So far, we have had very few members post this kind of promotion. Alexander_s would have a more compelling case for promoting his rental if he regularly participated in the forums before posing links. So far, that is not a hard and fast rule for any gear swap postings. The consistency of getting admin clearance, for posts viewed as potentially commercial, has been getting tightened up since about August this year.

Ski-Dad noted there are ski shops selling stuff on the forum. In general members with commercial interests that have been allowed to post links on the site have cleared this with the site administration. I believe most are supporters or have contributed to the support of the site in a significant way. The donation of gear by Sierra Ski and Snowboard for an Auction (see top of Gear Swap) is an example.

Interesting policy

i am kinda baffled by this interaction. I have read the BB boards for 4 years and bought several ski articles from members but, having lived in Houston many years, it is difficult for me to contribute much to a snow related board. In any event, some members read, some write, some do both and I am not sure if using one or the other is a good indicator of anything community related. It appears to me that there is confusion over SPAM (which this thread, in my opinion, is not) and commercial listings which, since money would be involved, this thread is. Perhaps we need to examine this policy vis-a-vis commercial listings and clear up the confusion. What is OK? Ski equipment and other "gear"; what about motor vehicles (I've seen in the past); I recall seeing people post their owned real estate FS in years past; thats a NO NO or is it OK? In any event, I thought that my owned property would be a good fit for a skiing family that does not want to stay at a hotel - but, I remain totally baffled by some of the responses.

Alexander- I bet if you offered EpicSki members a 10% discount on your condo, no one would have their panties in a bunch.

I specifically remember a guy who owns a condo in Keystone (and is a more regular poster) creating a post about his rental, and no one complained. I think the main contention they have here is the fact that you only have 6 posts.

personally i coluld care less if you post a rental opportunity on here
what i don't get is the Highway 2 comment? that road leads to Edmonton which puts you 2 hours further away from the mountains?
maybe if you said Highway 1 west?
and dude you are in Houston, so you've got nothing to brag about other than having a house in Canmore....

posted from Alberta, like Texas but bigger and with mountains.....

Am I missing something? Isn't it only 15 miles from Banff?

Anyways... you may want to put some prices on there. People tend to ignore websites that say to contact them for rates- its a convenience thing.

Explanation of the HWY 2 deal to people from Calgary

I am originally from Edmonton - a city that is due north from Calgary on, ahem, Hwy 2 North. Hence, we in Edmonton have long contended that "the best thing to come outa Calgary is Hwy 2 North" when speaking with persons from Calgary. I tried to type it slowly so the Calgarians can follow...and, yes, there is a serious lack of mountains and snow in Texas, but we DO HAVE BBQ!
