'07 Lange

I'm looking for some info on the new Lange race boots. I know they're going back to a design based on the old (pre-Pininfarina) lasts, and they're changing the traditional blue to a ugly as $%&* teal :P but that's about it.
a) Has anyone skied them? Any opinions?
b) Are these the exact same molds as the old boots, or have they changed? If so, what's different?
c) As a refresher, what are the differences between the Pininfarina designs and the old style? If I remember correctly the fit is a little more generous in the Pininfarina designs, what else?

the new langes are more akin to the old wc z-mold (the L10 was a watered down version of that design). theyve carved up the inside for better fit(i guess roomier in forefoot so more foot types can fit in), meddled with the forward flex but kept the lateral quite stiff. from what i've heard they tend to run longer in the toebox than any previous lange, and have used multi density plastics in the boot board to allow the sole to flex a little - i dont think this is any range of motion like the old atomic boots but will certainly help snow feel.

after trying the comp 120 pininfarinas i swore off langes and have been waiting for them to go back to a better design, like the l10, i think these are it

I have been skiing the Comp 120 (Pininfarina design) for the last 3 seasons. I have a pretty narrow, low volume foot and slender ankles. I tried on the new WorldCup 120 last week in the same size as my Comps. The Comp was available in a narrow (low fit) last which is what I have, the WorldCup comes in only one width. The new boot definitely has more room in the toe box, for both width and length, partly due to a less bulky toe cap on the liner. I had to have quite a lot of grinding of the shell and cutting of the liner on the old boots in order to make adequate toe room and to eliminate some pressure points around the ankle. The new boot has a nice snug feel, but does not feel like it would need much, if any grinding for pressure points. The rep referred to the new model as a plug boot, but it didn't feel like one to me. They also were much easier to get in and out of than the Comps. Looking at the shell design, the new model is stiffer laterally than the Comp, the forward flex feels about the same.

"they're changing the traditional blue to a ugly as $%&* teal "

it's called crazy blue, and wasn't the blue getting old? remember Lange has had orange/yellow/pink/black and a whole bunch of blue race boots which the other companies will copy the color of sooner or later(my guess is next year)....
besides it really comes down to how they ski and to paraphrase PORSCHE "there is no substitute"

I like the new blue and I can't wait to get my feet into the new 130 WC Fit since I'm a huge fan of their old 130WC.

The new blue is really ugly. And I agree, it isn't teal, but some hitherto un-named abomination. Which is kind of funny, since the Pininfarina-design in the old blue were about the nicest looking boots on the market, by my lights.

Apparently, Lange learned some kind of a lesson from Atomic about the virtues of questionable cosmetic schemes.

I think that maybe ugly is the new beautiful ....

Sorry boys - the women's version is black, with magenta type

Agreed. The Junior race boots are the "Teal" as well. Which, I believe, will turn an awful lot of male Junior racers away from Lange.

Yeah I kind of like the new blue too. I guess it's kind of neat looking. I shouldn't call boots ugly anyways. My Crossmax 10s have got to be some of the ugliest boots around.

small pic, but you get the idea http://www.landausports.co.uk/images...ens-780134.jpg

I remember finding the Crossmax 10 very cool when they were introduced, so don't despair, your boot isn't that ugly.

I heard that the new color was called brokeback blue.
... my first reaction to the new color scheme was, what the hell were they thinking! --- but a boot's a boot, and it's primary reason is to enable skiing performance.

I took out the liner for an attempt to look past the shell. It's worse, perhaps they assume we'll be replacing it. Super flimsy, matches all factory insoles.

It is interesting that arguably the best performing boot in the history of the sport would have people criticizing its color. Sometimes I wonder about priorities............oh well........:

FWIW, when compared to the plethora of translucent red/orange/yellow clones that are beside it on the wall I think it looks pretty good.

But that's just me......................

SJ:

Have you skied the Freeride 120's yet.

It looks like the same shell as the comp 120/130/150, but w/ a softer translucent plastic instead of "Crazy Blue"

I really wanted the freeeride 120, but alas, it was not to be for my foot.

for all the color challenged/phobic munchkin racers out there the team 60 is available in black as well so is the WC120 BTW....
brokeback jokes are so 2005 and usually come from guys wearing white footwear which is cool if you're Jerry Seinfeld...just remember to leave the tongues sticking out in front of your jeans...
and what Sierra Jim said...

Got:

Yes, I have skied both the 120 FR and the 130 WC. Not a lot, just a few runs in each. The outer dimensions of the shell are the same but the internal volume is of course different.

Although I ski in several different boots, I have spent the majority of my skiing career in Langes (of course I worked for that company for aboot 15 yrs....... ) FWIW.......I don't think there is another boot that skis the same as a Lange. This new iteration is going to be easier to fit for many. I have always gone from Brannock 28.5 into a Lange 9. It will take far less work to do this in the future.

I hope I'm not repeating this post......:

While I agree that criticizing the color/graphics of any equipment is quite vain, the bottomline is that when you're shelling out $700+ for a pair of boots you cannot help but factor in the color. I bet few would argue that if given the choice between boots that fit great and look like crap or boots that fit great and look great, they'll choose the latter.

If color and design didn't matter then all the ski companies would make plain white and black skis and the boot companies would do the same.

I would be lying if I didn't admit that I was drawn to how some of the skis I ended up in my quiver looked. But I also skied them and bought the ones that performed to my liking (I don't think the top sheet graphics on either my Karmas or AK No Ka Oi's are particularly appealing, but I liked the skis).

I don't think anybody is really criticizing the new Lange's for their colour. Just poking a little fun at them. I've met quite a few people skiing them; and they're usually the first people look down at they're own feet and chuckle. My race boots are actually white BTW.

Back to fit and performance....does anyone know the difference between the HP fit and the WC fit? The World Cup 130 is available with either fit, the 120 is available only with the HP fit.
Is anyone else experiencing shipment lags for Lange boots? Seems like all shops around here are screaming.
