How come my member number is 5856 and yours is 1774, Fox, when our join date is the same (July 4, 2002)?

Ummm... Nolo, that can't be right! You're 851 higher than mine!

I suspect it has something to do with the way the users were imported from UBB (the old forum software).

I find it interesting that we have 12,200 members, I joined over 2 years ago, and my member number is 12,564.

WTFH has a program running in the background. Eventually, he will be member number 1, have the highest number of posts, and we will all owe him a beer!

Nolo, didn't you used to be "nolobolone" or something like that? Maybe that name had a much lower number.

And the july 4 2002 date is arbitrary from the great crash of a few years ago. Some members were wiped out in that crash and had to re register. dchan asked for folks to try and pin down when they arrived and he fixed the dates and member numbers I think---if you didn't know, but had been here a good long time ---as I recall---july 4 2002 was sort of a default date.

Yep, I've been here a lo-o-o-ng time--and I did indeed register under a longer form of my name back when. Nolobolono. What was I thinking?

Anyone remember my question about if your username turned to "filler..." after the crashes?

This is primarily what caused all the user numbers to get out of wack.

As we went back and manually repaired as many records as possible, some people opted to not get merged back into their old user numbers but were happy just to get their post count and join date fixed.

Others insisted on trying to get their old numbers back.

And then there were the lucky ones that never lost their number or profiles in any of the crashes.

I was one of the profiles lost in one of the multiple crashes... Boy what a hassle that is when you are the admin and trying to fix other users and you can't get in your self.. (Thank goodness for redundancy)

That's right! That's what happened. I remember that since I was gone for a while, and during that time, the crash happened, I didn't bother to ask for my old member number back, but you guys were able to restore my post count. I was pretty stoked that noone had taken my user name, so when I re-registered, I got the same user name. That's why the 385, or whetever my current member number is, didn't ring any sort of bells with me.

sorry to dredge that up then!:

If you do a member search under "filler" you will find 77 entries. These are the ghosts of existing or former members with post counts. You can read the posts and if you recognize yourself, you could probably get dchan to restore your original number and join those posts into your current member name. Seems there are a lot of 2004 posts involved, so not everything goes back to 2002. There are also a lot of members with the last visit date shown as December 31, 1969. These also seem to be weird disjoined data losses from the crashes.

dchan or I would be happy to help anyone to merge their usernames. It's straight-forward, so please let us know...

this forum is quite active. I like that because you don't have to wait a long time to get replies.
