I'm all in! although the Masters Academy version of the same. This will be something like the 15th time I've done it. One of my friends who I taught with for a dozen years or so, and now lives in CO and teaches at Copper or Breck (might switch this year) will be joining us from the land of big mountains. Who says westerns skiers don't come east?

Is the Tibetan Tree Frog going?

No, he will not. The lucky SOB will be teaching at Sugarbowl this year (yes, N Lake Tahoe with dchan- nice to own your own business that allows you to work from a cable modem at whatever hours you want). So he won't be within 2000 miles of the east coast for the whole season. I think he worked something out with PSIA-E to keep his Dev Team status that he just got last season. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I told him he'd be nuts to pass it up. Now I'm just looking for flights to Reno to visit!!

I sent my application in with what should be a 9/25 postmark. We'll know soon, but usually first day postmark is enough. FWIW I also sent my money in for the National Academy.

We need to have some kind of Bear get together at this thing.

How about the upstairs at the lodge where we all meet? After the first day? Say around 4:30 or 5?

Terry

PS-not sure if it is Ramshead or Snowshed? Do you know Eric?

Ok I looked it up it's Snowshed. Who's in?
I'll show if I get there on time. The drive can be tricky that time of year. In 2003 I ended up stuck in a snow bank on the shoulder of Rt. 4 near Whitehall NYfor an hour or so (I took the snow bank to avoid an oncoming bus in my lane. He was passing on the outside of a curve during a snow storm.)

I'm going to Pro Jam . . . I'll be in a LIII skiing group . . . hopefully the fast one.

I don't really know anyone because I've never been to a EpicSki get together or anything . . . and I already managed to anger a bunch of people on the Epic Ski Instructional Camps forum by calling them old . . .
Perhaps I need some allies.

Hey mattchuck2!

Don't worry I'm old but you didn't offend me! Not sure if there is a so called fast or slow group for L3.I would imagine they are going to take you through possible tasks that could be thrown at you at an exam, along with a lot of free runs.
If you want to chat you can PM and I can give you more details!

I am not sure you angered anyone but you did ruffle some feathers. I am not an instuctor, so maybe I am over stepping my bounds here in these comments. Instruction is about giving, not taking. In reading your posts over in the other thread, and this one here, I see a lot of immaturity in your posts and what you can "take" from these clinics instead if what you will be able to learn to give to your students. "Hopefully the fast one"???? Are you going to ask for the "fast group" at sign-up? I would suggest a bit of humility when you get there. I think you have much to learn before you even put skis on to give a lesson.

Phil, you are well within our rights to take umbrage at rude comments. You'd be within your rights, even if it were me making offensive comments. (I used to be great but now that I'm modest, I'm perfect.)
I think you might need some info to udnerstand about the "fast Level III skiiing group", though. At SPJ we break into many groups. The registered and Level I's who want to work on their skiing, but not to prepare for anexam go to one group, while Level I's who wnat to work on preparingfor the Level II skiing go to another, and so on. Level II's who want to work on their skiing, but not prepare for an exam have a group. I think there is a racing focused group, which may include Level I's and II's. In the end we have about 7 big groups. Each of these groups further subdivides into smaller groups so that they can ski with a sngle course conductor for most of SPJ. Typically they break down by how serious they are about the exam, and how hard they want to ski. Some groups are top-to-bottom groups, or fast groups, and others pause on the way down. Because of the Estern exam format, all of the teaching exam prep groups are likely to contain very serious candidates, who recently pased the skiing portion of their exams, and want to take a teaching exam this season. This is not so with skiing exam prep groups. Many folks are just putting their toes in the water. What he is saying, then, by saying he wants to be in the fast group, is he wants to be with a class full of serious candidates for the skiing exam who have the intention of skiing top-to-bottom on most runs.
FWIW, I will be in a Level II teaching exam prep group, and will probably look for a medium to slower paced group.

matt,

I don't pay any attention to that ****. The truth doesn't hurt, in this case. You have the option, lucky you.

Meanwhile, if you are getting together at a certain time and wouldn't mine a visit by me - a non-participant, I'd love to say hello. If that is inappropriate pm me. It's always a pleasure to meet others from Epic.

I'm showing up this year too. I have it on good authority that all 406 people who sent their apps. in on the 25th made it in. They had to make some special arrangement with the banquet facility in order to get everyone in. Believe it or not, that's the limiting factor...
I'll plan to be there but my calandar doesn't go out that far. Snug up plans a little later.

Nah, this season, with regards to instruction on my personal skiing, I'm all about taking. Next year, when I do the teaching portion I'll return to being about giving. I am just trying to find the most comfortable environment for me to improve my skiing because, after all, the goal is to pass the level III skiing test. I guess it sounds a little selfish, but I REALLY don't want to spend $110, or whatever it is, and end up failing.

This is exactly what I was talking about. Sorry if it wasn't so clear.

I sent in my full payment for the National Academy too, but so far my Visa card hasn't been raided! I might have to email them.

I remember Pro Jam. It was in full swing, back in 2000, while I was learning how to teach. Everyone seemed to be having a barrell of fun. It was a great snow year too, so there was plenty of snow and fun around.

It was great to meet you and get to ski with you all week tcarey! What a fun time (as always), even if Wednesday was a bit on the ... uh... *damp* side. Sorry I didn't get to meet any new faces on Monday eveing. I was in the bar. But I hadn't been here on EpicSki for a while, so I didn't realize people were trying to set up a meeting.

I blew off the Friday night festivities at Stowe due to the weather, and just went home. I guess we have to have some bad years to average out the good years.
