NEW RX8 Construction Exposed!

Thread Starter
Hey folks, My friend Gary from over at Realskier called Fischer and got the scoop on the "new" RX8.

Hmmm...Titanium Carbon Fiber or Laminated Wood Core...that spells out the primary construct difference between the 2005-2006 RX8 and the 2006-2007 RX8.

I called Fischer USA this morning to see what Customer Service had to say. I said the brochures are saying Sandwich Construction and she responded " it wouldn't be the first time the brochure was wrong". She continued checking and said that the the new RX line is for sure Sandwich Construction.

She said initially there might have been an over run issue where they made new RX8 with the new graphics but still had the 05-06 construction.

She said if you want to be sure, there is a code on the side of the ski that should be able to verify it. Also, if you get the Item # of the ski, they can confirm the ski construction.

Owning last years RX8 and not having seen the new model, I can't say if the ski body looks different. Although when I look at the Fischer home site and click on last years and this years skis, then click to the info on the construction, the diagrams shown do look differerent.

Not sure if this helps anyone, but it's the most info I could get short of actually holding the 2 skies side by side.

The Fischer USA phone number is 603-314-7110.

Best,
Gary

Hmmm. Sounds confusing and like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.
Glad I'm not currently in the markert for this ski. Buyers- BEWARE!

Actually buyers DON'T BEWARE. I don't know if you've ever skied RX8s, but if they didn't change a single thing from last year, don't let that stop you from purchasing a pair. The 04-05 and 05-06 models are exactly the same except for graphics. It is a great ski, and I have to believe that if they did change it for this year, it can only be to make a great thing even better.

Agreed, it is a great ski. The "Beware" relates to knowing what you are buying. It would be nice if the people at Fischer knew what was going on.
Remember that as the ski gets to stores the salespeople will know even less about what they will be selling to people.

Great info. The difference in appearance between the old cap RX8 and the laminate Worldcup RC is very obvious. The vertical sidewall forms a sharp 90 degree angle where it meets the top sheet on the laminate RC. I'll have to take a look at the new RX models at retail ASAP.

I know that it's possible to put a cosmetic "cap" topsheet on a laminate ski, but now that laminate construction is a selling point, I would expect a laminate construction Fischer RX8 to look like the older laminate Fishers. In-fact the bright yellow sidewalls on my RC make a clear statement.

Cheers,

Michael

And they look real cool too.

I have examined the skis up close, and the graphics have changed from last year, but they are otherwise identical as far as I can tell. The diagram on the website is not accurate.

The new RC's no longer have the curved top. They are flat like the WC GS and SL, and have bigger sidewalls than before.

After sending a complaint to Fischer, I got this in response:

"After reviewing your e-mail and what is on our website under sandwich construction I agree with you. We will be changing the verbage to better show that these woodcore skis are capped. I apoligize for the error and shortly you will read a better representation of the products on the website. I thank you for bringing it to our attention and hope that we can keep your business for the future."

That's cool. I should've figured it was an error after seeing that the diagram for their freeride skis is the same. The site isn't updated yet.

So, lets get this straight...

The current RX-8 is the same old RX-8 that we know and love?

Nope. Not by a long shot. Like many other brands/models, this season's RX-8 sports new performance enhancing graphics.

Actually, you are absolutley right. It is the same great ski except for a new paint job. The RX-8 and RX-9 remain wood/core, air carbon/titanal, capped skis and at the top in their class.

Thanks for bringing the matter to their attention and for sharing Fischer's response.

OMIGOD, they're red?!
A more RAD Red than last season, allowing the skier to carve with even more confidence.

Edit: Oops, weren't they orange?

They're not red?

They better be good!

I bought new 04/05 RX9s before last season at a pretty nice discount. This news makes me feel pretty smart. It's the age-old addage: if it ain't broke don't fix it.

They no longer look like halloween candy...
instead... they look much closer to a molding creamsicle...this-however- in no way...will impede my acquisition of yet another pair.

The news make me feel a little gullible. I agree, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Cheers,

Michael
