Eileen Brown is an occasional poster here, a part-time instructor at Copper, and a friend to many.

Several years ago she had a serious bike accident and one of the highlights of my season last year was seeing her back on her feet and skiing well.

She has suffered another setback having had a fall in which she suffered a hip/femur fracture. She is scheduled to undergo surgery today.

Eileen is one of the very best people that i have ever known. I'm simply going to leave it at that.

If you are in a card shop/drug store please grab a get well card and send it to her at the following address

Oh my God! Not again! That woman has suffered more bad luck than anyone on the planet! I will try to see if I can pay her a visit.

OH NO!! I can't believe it. Seems like last week Eileen and I rode the Copper Triangle, not to mention several other mtn passes she towed me over this summer.

Thanks for the heads up on this, Rusty!

i know surgery was scheduled for this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. BB has more details than i. according to BB the prognosis for an exceedingly speedy recovery is very good.

those that know her are aware that this wonderful person has had more than her share of bad breaks. there is not a better soul on the face of this earth.

Bong--

I saw Eileen in the hospital last night, a couple hours after the accident. She was a bit angry with herself, but in generally good spirits (I suspect there was more in her IV drip than saline solution, though). I saw the x-rays and talked with the doctors a little.

Apparently the prognosis is good, and she should be ready to ski early in the season. She is probably in surgery as we "speak." They'll reassemble her with a little titanium, and barring complications they expect her to be weight-bearing in a week or so, and walking and rehabbing shortly thereafter. She'll probably be released from the hospital by tomorrow.

Let's all keep our fingers crossed. Eileen's a star, and really didn't deserve this bad break. But she's about as resilient and determined as anyone I've ever met, so I expect she'll bounce back, once again. She's eying that Level 3 Full Cert exam this spring, so wish her well!

Best regards,
Bob

If she's going home tomorrow, we'd like to get these cards to her... Thoughts?

will a post card do?

This just in!

Ah--phone rang just as I hit "send" on that last post. My wife, Susan, called from the hospital, where Eileen just came out of surgery. All went well--titanium pin--and she's feeling good, hungry, and doing fine. They expect to release her from the hospital on Friday.

Best regards,
Bob

can someone get her home address or volunteer to accept cards and take them to her.

i'd do so, however, as many know i'm out of town a great deal in the fall.

That's a really dreadful injury. We'd best send her a Cow or a tanker of milk as well as cards! (when there's a home addy I'll inflict a mysterious australian one on her).

Let us know... waiting to send...!

If no one else volunteers, I'll do it. I need to get some fresh air, anyway...

I'll be happy to be the middleman for cards to Eileen. Send them care of me, P.O. Box 23328, Silverthorne, CO 80498. I'm sure she'll appreciate everyone's thoughts!

A quick update--went to visit Eileen again this evening. She's cheerful and very upbeat, excited that she can already move her leg around in the bed without pain (I'm amazed by that too). Sounds like they'll start rehab exercises tomorrow already. I'd better go find her bike to make sure she doesn't try to ride it home!

Best regards,
Bob

Hey Vail SnoPro--congratulations on your own recovery! I'll bet you're more than ready for that opening day! It's great news (I know that you've already tested everything out successfully way down south. I look forward to seeing you out ripping again!)

Update on Eileen--I just spoke with her. She's just this moment been released from the hospital, where they kept her one more day for observations. She's walking with a walker, not much weight bearing but that will come soon. Apparently they're telling her "officially" to shoot for January 1 to get back on skis. Knowing Eileen, I wouldn't be surprised to see some "unofficial" skiing before then, but I'll never tell.

Best regards,
Bob
