Heavy ski vs. light ski

Thread Starter
Bear with me here since I have not used that many skis in my lifetime. But this past season I was demoing some 06 Atomic SL skis, they felt very light and nimble, at speed they seemed to work well too; though I didnt get to go too fast. I normally ski on some Head all mountain experts or Head GS skis, both of which are heavy skis (I think all Head skis are?) But the Atomics were shorter than both of my skis so it wasnt exactly a very well executed "test". My question is, do heavier skis in general provide more stability at high speeds, or is it just a matter of length?

In motorsports racing, two criteria that help with stability are length and weight...so I am guessing the same applies for skiing.
