Volanaddict's Horendous gear overexpendature thread!!! - Page 3

Five season passes, 3 Mogul Comp programs for the kids, 2 trips to Mt Hood, one pair of Dalbellos for Dad and a Happy Family. (sung to the tune of the 12 days of Xmas)
My little skibuilding project has begun to rack up quite a bill:

Edges, P-tex, Damping rubber $54
S812 Ti Bindings $35
Jig Saw $65
Home Depot trips (this month) $100
Other tools $50

Total: $304

There's more, but I really don't want to add it all up. I could have just bought a pair of skis by now!

But these will be 100% mine...
Is this where we discuss personal ski gear purchases, family purchases or combined?
And, do we really want to post how much we spent, or how much of a savings, since, after all, we shopped and got some phenom bargains!!
I would have to add it up, But I'd say I've saved almost 1000.00 this year!!!

I bought a Doppelmayr gondola, a lodge, a catering company and an Eversest Power piste groomer.

...actually, I would be pleased if I had the money in the bank for some Dynastar 8000s .

175cm Elan MO2 (Or to a $38 ski with Salomon S914s mounted? e-bay)

175ish Volant Power Karves ($50 craigslist)
I spent four hours polishing these things. Given all the other skis I don't know if I'll ski them much, but if I need a shaving mirror I'm covered.

The only thing I really still want is the new Elan M1111. I flexed and fondled one today at Evogear in Seattle and it felt like $$$.
You should become a gear broker. Those prices are amazing.

Don't hurt yourself when fondling the craiglist deals. They could be too "hot" to handle.

To replace equipment damaged in my accident:

Arc'teryx Jacket: $384.95
New Giro helmet (on sale): 46.00
Smartwool underwear top: 37.54
New Mittens (okay, they weren't damaged, but I needed new ones): 39.98
New skis: 357.00

Still to come: new goggles, probably $60 or so.

This is all since August. $865.47 not counting goggles. And naturally, the season pass is not included, that's a given and unavoidable. But that was $499.

And this in spite of the fact that I had to cash in part of my 401k retirement to cover my medical bills. Apparently "maximim out of pocket" is a lie.

Salomon S900 Carbon bindings: $30.50
Salomon S914 bindings: $65.00
Machete Spatulas: $365

Reusch Strategy Gore-tex gloves: $20.00

I bought some Atomic GS:11s about two weeks ago, and I'm considering the AFRC pants. Have yours arrived yet? How's the quality? The deal seems too good to be true.

Here's what you need if you are spending a lot of time in the backcountry. Too bad they are so expensive.

Well it's hard to say, seeing as I haven't used them, I don't know how they will hold up, but they appear to be well made.

Heavy duty YYK zippers on the pockets (the GTX model have no back pockets but the front ones are deep and are made out of some sort of plush fleece like fabric), and down the legs, which have pull chords attached for easy grip with gloves.

There is a high padded "spoiler" in the back of the waist, however no belt loops on the GTX model (can't say about the Primo model).

The fabric used to reinforce the cuffs is NOT heavy duty nylon as I would have hoped, but I'm not TOO hard on my cuffs, so I can live with it.

For the price, I'm very pleased, and look forward to having a dry and comfy keester this season.

Total: $691.79 all since September!!!! :: Oh, and the ski swap is this weekend. ::

This completely wiped out all the good work I did in paying down my debt over the summer, oops.

So, does anyone else have anything they'd like to confess? (mostly just to make me feel better, but if it helps you too, then that's just gee-swell )
UPDATE:

DOH! I didn't stop at the list above , but went to the ski swap, and bought a pair of 204 Salomon Force 9.1 2S with s997 demos ($15), and then a couple weeks back bought some Smith Prodigy goggles with Sensor Mirror lenses for $40.89 on SAC. :

However, I DID sell off the S914s for $115.

So an other year has come, and thinking about my "final" purchase for the season to arrive, I further was reminded of this thread, so bump it up.

New to me this season is only a modest selection.

185 Machete FB ............................................................$125
Columbia Canyon Creek aterproof jacket...........................$29
Wickers expedition weight top..........................................$19
Moonflex diamond file red 200 grit.....................................$20
Hot Headz 6 In 1 Fleece Hood .........................................$10
6" Viiala chrome file.........................................................$8
Bahco Steel Scraper........................................................$7
PTex Candles..................................................................$7
Denatured alcohol (for diamond file cutting solution)............$7

Total $232

Season Pass = 60 hours of maintenance work on the mountain.

I've done well to prevent deficit spending, by selling two pairs of skis, a pair of poles, a pair of boots, a pair of bindings, and [shamelessspam] I even have more skis for sale. [/shamelessspam]

Over the past 12 months I've bought two pair of skis and a pair of boots that I do not need at a total savings of over $1,000! What a deal.
