The Gathering Never Dies

Thread Starter
I am attending a conference at Snowbird and who do I run into near the end of the day in the Tram line but a couple of Kiwis named Julie and Adrianz. We did a couple of tram runs together and I showed them some runs from both sides of the cirque traverse that still had some soft crud in them. I also showed them some of Alta Skiers favorite "environemnt" traversing out past Why Not. It was fun catching up with them but they couldn't stop for a Marguerita as they were off for an overnight glimpse of the Las Vegas lights and casinos.

2 of the loveliest people I've ever met! Must have been great to see them again!

I, too, enjoyed skiing with Julie and Adrianz at The Canyons prior to the Academy. Ski bums . . . I had no idea they were still hanging around. I hope to ski with Julie and Adrianz again in the not too distant future.

I've yet to see IG flame any board from another board. Nor would I expect to. Guess I'm a tad confused here myself.

Gerathlete and Helen are still puttering around out West, too, before they head back down under.

I second Alta's confusion. Are you confusing IG with somebody else? I certainly hope so.

IG is the person behind the outstanding day we had at the Canyons (Jan 25). He organized a group ticket purchase($37/person!), he guided many of us all over the Canyons on a deep powder day and also organized an excellent lunch. IG is an outstanding guy, who helped several people with equipment. I have never seen IG post anything in poor taste.

As for Julie and Adrian, what can I say, super-nice people. They were in my instruction group and we spent lots of quality time together (especially since stmbtres drove us between Snowbird and Extended Stay in SLC). We had a blast with these fine Kiwis. They are very passionate about skiing, and they can ski really well.

Unfortunately we're now back home after ESA and then two weeks in Jackson Hole. Will talk about that and ESA in detail later after getting all the backlogged e-mails and all the unpacking sorted out .

it was really great meeting everyone at ESA. Unfortunately our schedule and the lack of an internet connection in Teton Village prevented us from catching up with the Gathering participants in JH.

More on our experiences later. Right now Helen (who is at work ) and I are trying to recover from a 34 hour return trip and a transition from temperatures of around 15-20F to 34C (about 100F). Quite a difference!

Gerathlete, it was really great meeting you folks! After years of cybertalk, I felt as if I already knew you!

Thanks Lisamarie, we enjoyed meeting you guys and all the Bears so much. I was really disappointed not to extend that contact by meeting all the Gathering participants but we met a few.

Helen and I had a quick debriefing on our views on the trip yesterday and will post our thoughts when the jetlag has subsided somewhat!

Thanks everyone for the compliments, Adrian and I had the trip of a lifetime, and it was all due to the bears, so a BIG THANKYOU . Arcmeister's superb tuition put us in good steed to enjoy the awesome ski areas we went to (and allowed me to keep up with the guys, most of the time )

Thanks Si for showing up places at Snowbird we would not have found on our own. The body managed to last until the end of the trip but I think I now have to go back to work to recuperate from my holiday

Only just got home about 5 hours ago, luckily it is cool here today, so is helping me to acclimatise. Will post some of my pics soon, only took about 300 or so, and 90 minutes of video : but I won't subject you to them all.

Over our 3 weeks we skiied 17 days, visited The Canyons, Snowbird, Alta, Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee, Snowbasin, Solitude, Park City. We headed back to SLC for the third week of our holiday. We kept it pretty cruisy deciding where to go each morning once we hit the road, and cause it was mid week made it difficult to meet up. We drove 2277 miles in our rental car over 15 days, venturing south to Las Vegas and the Zion National Park for 30 hours, on a supposed 'rest day'

More to come ....... including a lot more thankyous

Damn!!! I only skied 16 days in my 3 weeks, beaten by the kiwis.

I've been back in Aus nearly 2 weeks now after 4 days skiing Jackson/G Targhee and the rest at Vail/Beaver Creek. As per julie I must say the Gathering was the highlight, a great group of bears, special mentions to bob, eugene, fredo, altaskier, dave, simon, cedric, gonzo, julie, adrian and rio for the great skiing company.

Thanks also to the mountain that is Jackson Hole, hands down the best mountain I've skied! (I'm not just comparing to aus resorts either).

BTW, still managed to get an epic couple of days at Vail (sorry to mention the evil dark side in the company of the jedi Jackson skiers), we got a foot plus of true champagne powder one night.

Adam - you will just have to come ski in NZ this winter to make up for it . Pacific Blue are now flying MEL to Christchurch, never been cheaper.

Jackson Hole is also the best mountain I have ever skied, definitely going to return one day.
