I'm sure a lot of you already know this, (especially the Montanans), but Beartooth Pass between Cooke City and Red Lodge, Montana is an incredible sight.

Lord in heaven what a beautiful drive!

And snow... there's tons of it up there. I don't have time to ski on this trip, but I'm already planning my August turns. Top of the Pass, August 2.

YeeHaw Bob!...The Beartooth Pass area, Red Lodge and Cooke City indeed rule! Years ago I went to summer race camp in Cooke, we were hauled up a mountain in a cattle truck until we hit snow, where there were snow cats waiting for the rest of the trip. There was a tow set up running off a tractor wheel on Lolo Glacier where we set the courses. Cooke City back then was a wild & crazy town...and probably hasn't changed much. And just stunningly beautiful. It's great to hear from someone else who has discovered such a great place!

Driving (hiking and skiing too) the Beartooth Pass continues to be a must-do on my list. I have heard about its spectacular beauty many times. Given your new location maybe this should become your regular August ski fling?? I sure would try to make it one year if that was the case.

Nooooooo! The Beartooths are not beautiful. There is nothing to see there. Please move on. Cooke City? Population under 100? Don't go there. Red Lodge? Please. Stay away. The Lamar Valley? Nada. The Chief Joseph Highway? What a bore.
