My apologies if this was already posted. I'm looking for a new set of planks mostly for New England Backcountry with 2-3 trips to the west a year. I've narrowed it down to these two skis: Volkl Mantra and K2 Seth Vicious. I'm 5'8" 145 ski 50+ days a year. There will be a set of nx21's riding on top. I'm wondering if anyone has demoed both. I'm a Volkl skier, theres no doubt about it, I own a ton of their skis, but when I tried the Mantra in 177, they seemed dead, no life at all. My guy swears up and down that the 184s will be better, but after my day on the 177's I'm really skeptical. I didn't get the chance to demo the Vicious, I was looking at the 179's. Which ski is stiffer? I'd think off hand that the k2 would be stiffer since they are marketing it as big mountain/pipe. But I've been told otherwise. Also it seems like the tighter turn radius on the k2's would be an advantage. On the Vokl side, I've skied nearly every ski they make, and have never been disappointed. And G0DDAMN the Vicious is UGLY. Thanks for any input. -Freeskier75 PS. In response to the inevitable those skis are too big for you replies. I skied the 2006 Karma and 2007 AC4 both in 177 all over the mountain no problem last winter.
