Alignment changes from hip replacement

This is probably not a topic of general interest but it's nearing the end of summer, I've got a second new hip, and I'm thinking even more about skiing. I've started a few threads on alignment issues that I deal with. In summary, I feel that I've got pretty good alignment on my right with my boot parameters (stiffness, cuff angle, ramp angle, et.) and boot sole canting - (2 degree thick side in). On the left (new hip in April 06) I have not been as successful but have come up with the best I can which includes softer flex on the left and 1.5 degrees thick side out boot sole canting. The major shorcoming on the left has been a sense of inability to find an alignment that allows "centered" foot pressure - it's always back at the heel.

It seems that my newest hip will be even better/stronger than the right (replaced 6+ years ago). (I attribute this mostly to increased femoral offset which contributes to documented increased strength for abduction and perhaps other hip movements??). A critical problem that the surgery will likely fix is pretty severe limitation of internal and external rotation. (There is already evidence of this but tissue healing and strengthening should lead to much greater return of internal and external rotation over time). Interestingly my alignment on the left (new hip) has changed from a slight "toe out" to a slight "toe in."

With these two changes my intuitive feeling is that I will much more easily be able to achieve centered foot pressure with a concomitant improvement in the ability to develop edge angle. I'm not sure if or how the canting might need to change. I really need to get into my boots and check that out but I've been waiting for things to stabilize with the hip so I don't go off on a tangent.

So, any thoughts on this? Especially with the changes in "toe in" ? One other confounding might be that my left leg is now slightly longer. However, I (my pelvis) has been able to accommodate to this change so that it is not apparent to an outside observer and only apparent to me if I consciously think about it.

I suggest you also send a PM or better, an email to Bud Heishman. Bud has not been on since April, but with the ski season approaching, he should be migrating back any time.

Is that hip Bilstein or stock Boge

Umm I guess a new hip is technically gear right? So you have more camber essentially - should allow faster "turn-in" if I remember my Porsche drivers ed ....

Dunno what this means for boots but maybe you'll be able to go stiffer with more toe-in? This is getting funny mixing auto and body mechanic analogies ....

Not only are the hips new gear they are of the highest quality titanium and ceramic!

As for your centering ability, canting and alignment, what is directly under your foot?
I'm not sure of how to respond? Do you mean this literally (i.e. footbed) or otherwise? Can you clarify?
