The following three resorts usually open the earliest:

Tyrol basin, WI http://www.tyrolbasin.com/ (actually opened for hiking on Sunday, Oct. 15)

Ski Brule, MI http://www.skibrule.com/
Scheduled opening Nov. 10, but it could be earlier, or later.

Wild Mountain, MN http://www.wildmountain.com/

There will be a hike to rail jam at Grand Geneva (Mountaintop) on Oct. 28

Small skiing world

Quick small world story. I recently met "Prosper" who posted earlier in this thread. We go to the same church. Anyway, we got to talking and discovered that we both enjoyed skiing. After a bit, we figured out that we had exchanged an on-line dialogue on this site a couple of years ago.

Wow I didn't even see this post before I made my name. What a coincidence I live in Pittsburgh but I'm going to school at DePaul University. My dorms are in Lincoln Park but I go to the computer school in the Loop. This is my first quarter here, where is the closest/best place to ski around here? It seems flat :

Hello Everyone! I'm here in the North West burbs and am glad to hear of a gathering formimg. I've skiied Alta and the Banff resorts and am going to St. Anton in Austria this Jan. I haven't gotten a ski pass for the any resorts here yet and just heard about the Ski Wisconsin pass thing (sounds like a good deal).

After skiing the West for the first time last year, I went to Cascade in MI with some friends and man was I bored But, I think I should head out more anyways.

Wilmot is 30 mins from work, so I might consider a pass there.... I'm definitely up for a meet on the hill.

Don't worry my friend, there's a few bumps over in Wisconsin

Here's a quick list so you can get your bearings http://www.snowplaces.com/

There are a few bumps up here. Easy to get to. If you come up 94 you can hold 90 until MKE. That stretch is never patrolled.

Too bad that Alpine demo is the 16th. I've got a race at Norway that weekend.
Tyrol only had rails that Sunday. No room to actually ski.
I'll be around Tyrol on weekends before Thanksgiving (if they open) Look for the Ferrari F-1 hat.
Thanksgiving is camp at Brule. There's a few adult packages available. PM me for details.
Also this Sunday is Tyrol's open house and ski swap/sale 9:00 to 4:00.

I propose we all meet at Brule Nov 11! I will be there!
That may be possible. I don't need to update my license this year but was thinking about it.
My main problem is the seven Newfy pups that were born Oct 15. I may have a problem finding a "sitter".

I missed the show last year, so definitely want to go this year and maybe get a few resort deals for this season. Anybody else going? Havent decided which day to go. Is it worth it to be there on the first day.. like specials or something... I could take the afternoon off.. :

Gathering Update

Finally got some lift ticket info for the Alpine Valley gathering/demo on December 16th. There will be vouchers available at ski/board shops. You can pick these up in the stores listed below, have them stamp them. Bring these to the demo check in table pay the $10 for the demo and you will get a free lift ticket for the day. The vouchers are suppose to be in our hands this week but I would call first. The shops in the Chicago area are Verticaldrop, Viking, Snowcrest, Globe Sports, Rockford Ski Rack and Shread Shop. If any are added I will update. Will post a meeting place at a later date.

See you all there
Think cold and snow

Hey guys, is there any benefit in attending the ski show on the first day (today)? Like, are there some special deals, lift tickets, etc that run out soon?

Its On!

Sunburst Ski Area opens this Friday with their own WROD. They say Exhibition will be open with possibly two chairs and a 14" base. Sunburst is near Milwaukee, WI.

I'll be there on Sunday! Anyone else?
does that mean there's only one run open?
I'll be at Sunburst Saturday for a dryland clinic, but won't be skiing unless I want to torture myself in last year's boots.

That's what they are saying, but if you've ever been to Sunburst then you know thats the run you spend 90% of your time on anyway.

Tyrol Basin will be open this weekend as well.
