Just received my Lange CRL90 boots from Evogear.

Well I have to say, I'm quite shocked at how these boots were packaged.

keep in mind these boots were sold as "new".

I received the box from DHL today and first thing I noticed was the boots were sliding all around inside the box. once the box was opened I saw both boots , each in a clear plastic bag. No packing material in the box at all. They weren't even in the orginal LANGE carton. They were just tossed in a box and shipped. The box was actually too big so they were sliding all over the place. They seem to be in good condition but I'm just shocked that they (EVOGEAR) would ship their product in this manor. Now I'm very thankful that I paid the $5 for insurance. I now know why they offer the insurance lol. They should at the very least wrap them in bubble wrap or stuff them in paper or something. I got lucky I think, though I haven't checked the other boot yet. Anyway, I thought I'd share with you guys Evogears shipping practices. (I don't think I'm expecting too much here, when considering the amount of money ski equipment costs.)

I really should add, that the customer service was top notch when I contacted them to place my order and ask questions. The experience was a good one. I'm only disappointed in their packaging.

No bueno packing job!

Hey Hamish,

This is Steve, the Customer Service Manager at Evogear. I was annoyed to see how those boots were packaged and just wanted to let you know that we're taking action to make sure this doesn't happen again.

I've forwarded your pictures to our warehouse manager so he can get to the bottom of this.

I really appreciate this type of feedback. Don't hesitate to hit me up any time with concerns. Enjoy the boots!

Cheers,

Thanks, Steve. Someone must have shot this post over to you. I appreciate you coming in here and posting up. Like I stated above, the customer service I received from you guys was top notch. With any luck your shipping dept will take notice and pack items up better going forward.

Being a Shipping Manager myself I would love to know if my shipping team was sending things out like this. (I'm lucky to have a team that never cuts corners.)

After looking over the boots with a fine toothed comb I found that they are in nearly perfect condition and everything seems to work!

Thanks again for stopping in! Makes me feel like you guys do care about your customers!

Steve, nice to see a positive outcome from this transaction. Your prompt attention to the matter ranks right up there. Congrats to Evogear for having you on their team.

I ordered some Dolomite Rage X10's back around December and although they did come in the original box, that's all they came in...No other additional packaging or cushioning. Fortunetely, they didn't get damaged, but the potential was very high.

I also was sent the wrong size, which worked out because they came a size smaller than ordered and provided a better fit, after some work, then I would've got with the larger size I ordered...

Other than that, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from EvoGear in the future.

I purchased a nice pair of Scott Ransom ($150 CDN reg.) goggles from Evogear on a cheap ebay auction ($40USD). Shipping was fine, they came well protected in their original box. Only issue I had was that about 6 weeks later I got a notice in the mail that I had to pay an extra customs duty and handling fee or something, + GST (~$17 CDN). It's completely understandable, but I don't recall ever having to pay extra on anything else ordered from the states.

It might even have more to do with the shipping company than Evo, and they very well could have it posted on their website or in the ordering process. I still came out under 50% off retail so I can't complain, just thought I'd mention it for any other Hosers ordering stuff from Evo.

I'd need to check all the forms that were sent to me, but maybe Str8line would know the answer as well, would this customs duty be a flate rate around the cost I paid last time, or a % relative to the cost/size of the package? I've seen great deals on skis, but have hesitated for fear of an extra 15-20% added on.

duties and taxes are based off the value.

Singel, that would be the shipping company raping you, next time specify United States Postal service if possible....
As far as boots being shipped in bubble wrap, have you seen how they are shipped from the factory? Not much more (or less) than described above...

I really doubt you'll find something you like, you're more likely to find several things. Check out their ebay store as well, as you can find some even sweeter deals on there: http://stores.ebay.ca/Evogear-com-Seattle-WA

And it's nice to know the level of service evo maintains, if I decide to pull the trigger I'll know that I can get shipping all sorted out better this time.

Singel,

Sorry for the late response on the duty/tax questions. For small items such as goggles, USPS is sometimes a better option as the shipping prices are a bit lower as are the duties, typically. However, I'd shy away from USPS when ordering something more expensive, such as a pair of skis. USPS is cheaper than other carriers but MUCH less reliable. We've had a couple shipments that just "went missing" which is absolutely ridiculous. The nice thing about companies like DHL or UPS is that we can hold them accountable for any shipping problems, especially if orders happen to "goes missing". This is not much harder to do with the postal services.

My 2 cents. Cheers.

steve, thanks for the info, USPS has been painless for me...and my other hobby involves shipping expensive stuff around as well....
