Here are a few more that fit your criteria and are hike-worthy:
I highly recommend Herman Gulch Trail – Exit 218 off I-70 just on the east side of the tunnel. 4 miles up to a cirque with a high alpine lake. Pettingell Peak – a 13’er – is accessible from here as well.
Mt Audubon is a 13’er near Ward, and is a relatively easy 4 mile (one way) hike, or you can do Mitchell Lake trail which stays below treeline. There are a number of 13’ers in this area which are great hikes – check out the Arapaho / Roosevelt NF area trail maps for more. If you’re around during the winter and NOT skiing (GASP!!!) this is a great snowshoeing area too.
And there’s an 8-mile loop in Chautauqua Park in Boulder for a close-in conditioning hike. Start on Mesa trail and it’ll take you past NCAR, up Bear Canyon to Green Mountain, and down back through Gregory Canyon. The hordes generally don’t make it this far so the hike is pretty unpopulated. Bring water, though - there is no lake.
Have you done Jasper Lake in Indian Peaks? Tack on an extra mile or so and get to the Devils Thumb spire?
